citizen oft the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough olf Manhattan, in the county and State ot New York, have invented a new and Improved lhread-Idolder, ot which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. i

The invention is an impro vement in thread holders of the character disclosed in Letters Patent No. 896,582, granted to me August 1.8, 1908, and in which` a supporting stand is provided with a number ot laterally-extending arms, each arm having an intersecting thread-holding pin, and a locking mechanism within the arms to lock the pins in place.

It is the purpose of this invention to simplify and generally improve the locking mechanism, which I do by providing a single bolt for each pair ot oppositely-disposed arms, the bolt being endwise movable in either direction to alternately engage and disengage the pins.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters ot reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved thread-holder partly in vertical section; Fig. 2 is a plan ot' the thread holder partly broken away; and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.

In the construction ot' the thread holder I employ a supporting stand 5 having a number of radiating` arms 6 at the top, each provided with a thread-receiving aperture 7, as is the thread holder in my patent above referred to. On the upright member or standard of the stand are adjustable one or more blocks or carriers 8, two being shown, each provided at one side of the standard of the stand with oppositely-extending tubular arms 9, and at the opposite side ot the standard ot the stand with a set-screw 10, :tor holding it in adjusted position. The outer end ot each arm is provided with an elbow 11 having an internally-projecting flange or seat 12 slightly depressed below its top edge. 0n the seat 12 of each elbow rests an upright thread-holding pin 13, each pin having a reduced lower end portion 132t passing into the elbow, and a head 13b at the top to prevent the removal of the thread tubes 14 when the pins are locked in place. sitely-disposed arms is effected by a locking bolt 15 having its outer end portions 16 ot reduced diameter and adapted to pass through openings in the portions 13a of the pins 1,3, and alining openings 17 in the end walls ot' the elbows. The bolt 15 at a point in its length is provided with a tongue 18 which forms one section 19 of a lock and passes through a longitudinal slot 20 formed in one ot the tubular arms, and another section 21 ot the lock is hinged to a band 21 securedaround this arm. The lock section 21 carries a revoluble key-operated locking bolt 22 having a portion designed to engage behind a keeper 23 carried by the lock section 19. When the bolt 22 is turned to a position to disengage the keeper 23, the lock sections may be released by swinging the section 21 outwardly on its hinge.

To release the thread-holding pins 13 from the arms 9, the two sections 19 and 2l ot the lock are disengaged and the bolt 15 slid to its extreme position in one direction, when one of the thread-holding pins may be removed. The bolt is then slid to its extreme position in the opposite direction, when the other thread-holding pin is released. In locking the thread-holding pins in place, the operation ot' the bolt is reversed to alternately engage the pins, and is brought to a position to place the

19 and 21 in register, when the said sections may be locked and further movement of the bolt 15 prevented. In operating the bolt 15, the lock section 19 serves as a handle in sliding the bolt in either direction.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In a thread-holder, a support having laterally-extending arms, a thread-holding pin carried by each arm, and a bolt carried by the arms, movable in one direction to engage the pin ot' one arm and disengage the pin ot the other arm, and movable in the opposite direction to disengage the pin of the first-named arm and engage the pin of the second-named arm.

2. In a thread holder, a support having laterally-extending arms, a thread-holding pin carried by each arm, and a bolt carried by the arms, movable in one direction to engage the pin of one arm and disengage the pin of the other arm, and movable in the opposite direction to disengage the pin of the first-named arm and engage the pin of the second-named arm, said bolt being constructed and arranged to engage the pins of both arms when the bolt is in an intermediate position of its movement.

3. In a. thread holder, a support having laterally-extending arms, a thread-holding pin carried by each arm, a bolt carried by the arms, movable in one direction to engage the pin of one arm and disengage the pin of the other arm, and movable in the opposite direction to disengage the pin of the first-named arm and engage the pin of the second-named arm, and means to lock the bolt to one of the arms.

t. In a thread holder, a support having laterally-extending tubular arms, a threadholding pin intersecting` each arm, and a locking-bolt arranged in the arms and endwise movable therein in either direction to alternately release and engage the pins.

5. In a thread-holder, a support having laterally extending arms, thread -holding pins carried by the arms, a bolt: carried by the arms to lock the thread-holding pins in place, and a lock to secure the bolt to the arms in a position to engage both ol the pins, composed of two sections, with one section carried by the bolt and the other section carried by one of the arms.

6. In a thread holder, a support having laterally-extending tubular arms, threadholding pins carried by the arms, a bolt, to

engage and lock each of the pins in place,

slidable in the arms, a tongue extending from the holt and provided with a lock section, and a lock section hinged to one ol the arms to swing into and ont of locking position with the other lock section.
