UNITED PATENT @IFFIQE.
CYRUS S. RADFORD, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SASI-I-IIOLDER AND ANTIRATTLER.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CYRUS. S. Banronn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Holders and Antirattlers, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sash holders and anti-rattling devices for use on window sashes, and the like, and more particularly to a device of that character constructed in the form of a push button and one that is capable .of adjustment and attachment to window frames and window sashes of all kinds.
One objectof the invention is the produc-' tion of an anti-rattling device and sash holder in the nature of a push button and one that will be simple, strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture and reliable and efiicient in operation, as well as capable of ready attachment to a window sash or frame.
A further object is the production of a push button sash holder provided with a piston pin so constructed as to permit the rotation of the body portion of the device at will about said pin.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, wherein similar letters of reference are used to indicate corresponding parts in each of the several views :Figure l is a View of a window sash and frame partly broken away with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the device. Fig. 4: is a perspective view. Fig. 5 is a View of a modified form of the invention; and Fig. 6 is a plan view of the modified form as it will appear in use, the window sash and strip being shown in section.
Referring to the drawings :-A indicates the usual window sash operating in the window frame B provided with the usual strips C. The push button sash holder and antirattler of my invention comprise a body portion D which is practice forms an operating handle or knob. The base E of said body portion is cam-shaped as shown, and in said base is provided a recess adapted to receive a piston pin F. Said pin F is rotatably retained in said recess by means of the collar portion G which encircles the pin F and retains the same in said recess. This collar portion G may be secured to the base Specification of Letters Patent.

portion E within said recess by means of soldering or in any other preferred manner.
In the modified form shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the edge ii of the base of the device is provided with screw threads adapted to mesh with the screw threads of a plate I secured to the window strip C.
As shown in the drawings, the device in Fig. 1 is secured to the window strip and the cam surface in operation presses against the window sash and forces the same back against the frame. In Fig. 6, the device is shown attached to the window sash and cooperates with the plate I attached to the window strip. It will be understood, however, that in either instance the device may be attached either to the window strip or window sash in accordance with the desires of the user.
The manner of using the invention will be readily apparent from the foregoing description, and it will be seen that all that is necessary is to press the pin into the strip or window sash as desired in the proper position; if need be a slight tap with a hammer or other tool may be given on the head D.
Should the push button sash holder be socured to the window strip and it is desired to prevent rattling, all that is necessary is to turn said device by means of the handle D until, through the cam shaped base E, the same is jammed tight against the window sash. Should it be desired to use the device as a sash holder, all that is necessary is to elevate the window sash to the desired height, then turn the device as before mentioned until it is jammed against the sash, when it will securely hold the sash in raised position. It will also be seen that the device may be automatically removed from operative position by further elevating the sash, but that the sash could not be lowered without first manually turning the device from its operative jammed position.
In the form of the device shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the threads are so arranged on the plate I and base H that after the device is turned to operative jammed position, it will act as a lock and prevent anyone elevating the window prior to manually turning the device from its operative locking position. The threads are so arranged, as before stated, that should any attempt be made to elevate the window while in the locked position, the window will be more securely and tightly held in locked position. It will also be noted that when the device is attached to the sash, it may be utilized as a lift or hand hold when it is desired to raise the window.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. As a new article of manufacture a push button sash holder and anti-rattler comprising a body aertion having a cam-shaped base and a penetrating member permanently and revolubly mounted in said base.
2. A push button anti-rattler and sash holder comprising a body portion having a head portion, a cam-shaped base portion, a recess in said base portion, a pin revolubly mounted in said recess and means for retaining said pin in said recess.
3. A push button anti-rattler and sash holder comprising a body portion having a head portion, a cam-shaped base portion, a
recess in said base portion, a pin permanently and revolubly mounted in said recess and a collar encircling said pin and secured to the base whereby said pin is retained in operative position in said recess.
at. In a sash holder the combination of a push button comprising a body portion, a cam shaped base portion, screw threads formed on the edge of said base portion, and a plate provided with screw threads adapted to cooperate with the screw threads on said base portion when arranged in operative relation.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
