I claim asiny invention l. In a visible writing machine, thecombination with a ysliii'ting carriage and ribbon vibrator, of a ribbon vibrating lever .rocking about a fixed axis, actuating devices adapted to be connected at different distances from the axisot1 said lever to thereby afford a variable leverage and consequent variation of movement to bring diiierent parallel 'Zones of the ribbon opposite the printing point and nieans located in front of the type bars for controlling, at will of the operator, the point of engagement` of such operating devices with the lever.

In af visible writing machine, ribbon vibrating mechanism' comprising the Vcombination of a bell cra-nk lever having seats orf recesses in one of its arms, a link-connectedV at its lower end to the universal bar and at its upper end having a projection adapted to l engage such recesses, and a pivotal adjusting arm connection with such link connection whereby on movement of Asaid arm the link connection may be en a ed with either one of the recesses in the e l crank arm.
