PHILIP]? DGPPENSCI-IMITT, OF PFORZHEIM, GERMANY.
BRACELET 0R FINGER-RING HAVING A VARIABLE DIAMETER,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. December 15, 1908.
Patented Jan. 11, 1910.
Serial No. 467,671.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP]? DoPPEN- SCI-IMITT, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Pforzheim, in the Grand Duchy of Baden, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bracelets or Finger-Rings Having a Variable Diameter; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bracelets and other ornamental articles adapted to surround some part of a limb of the wearer; and the said invention consists in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.
The accompanying drawing illustrates by way of example the present invention, with the new clamping device.
Figure 1 shows an elevation of the bracelet, Fig. 2 a section on the line AA Fig. 1 looking from left to right, and Fig. 3 a plan.
The bracelet 1 may consist of a resilient helically wound metal band or a non-resilient flexible member of metal or of other materials, for example, wire-gauze, chain-work or the like the same being bent into, and held in a closed curve approximately elliptical or circular. Each of its ends is provided with a loop 2 surrounding the said band which constitutes the body of the ring or bracelet. In this manner the ends of the bracelet are always held on the bracelet itself no matter whether the bracelet is adjusted so as to be narrow or wide. A slidable clip 3 serves to clamp fast together the overlapping portions of the bracelet, said clip being arranged displaceably on the bracelet between the two loops 2. The clip 3 is provided with a casing which surrounds the overlapping parts of the bracelet and this casing has its base or inner wall against the inner one of such overlapping parts, it being also provided with a space on the outer side of the other overlapping part in which space a cam roller at is arranged eccentrically, said cam being mounted in the walls of the casing of the clip, said cam roller being turned by means of a small head 5 or the like outside of said casing so that in conse quence of being mounted eccentrically when turned in the proper direction it presses against the liner 6, the result being that the overlapping parts of the bracelet are pressed together.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An ornamental article of personal wear consisting of a band bent into a closed curve and adapted to surround some part of a limb of the wearer the ends of said band overlapping and each of them being also provided with a slidable clip between the said terminal loops this clip having a casing in contact with the inner face of the article and also having a cam roller and liner arranged within said casing and adapted to act at i will on the outer face of the article to bind the overlapping parts of the latter together at any point, which said clip may be shifted and in any position of extension or contraction of the article.
2. An ornamental article of personal Wear consisting of a band in the form of a closed circle adapted to surround some part of a limb of the wearer and provided with a slidable clip carrying an eccentrically operating device for binding against said article and a part interposed between said device and the body of said article.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PHILIPP DOPPENSGHMITT.
