To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HAMMOND I). DooLnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Forrest City, in the county of St. Francis and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ticket-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to ticket holders, and has for an object to provide a device of this character which will broadly consist of a receptacle having an exit passage adapted to receive the uppermost ticket of a series held in a novel manner within the receptacle and adapted to be automatically fed to the said exit.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a ticket hol der wherein the receptacle can be formed with open top and bottom portions, spring or elastic means being arranged longitudinally of the receptacle and having a portion underlying the open bottom, the ends of the elastic means being operatively connected with the end walls of the receptacle and having a portion underlying the follower' so that the follower is movable toward or away from the portion of the elastic means beneath the open bottom of the receptacle.

In ticket holders it is common to employ a receptacle having a bottom, and spring means mounted upon the bottom for exerting its tension against a follower but this construction is objectionable in that the movement of the follower is limited in one direction. It will be appreciated that by constructing the follower with an open bottom the receptacle will be extremely light and can be manufactured with a great saving of material.

In the drawing, forming a portion of this specication and in which like characters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views z-Figure l is a perspective view of the ticket holder. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, there is shown a receptacle which is of rectangular form and consists of spaced parallel side walls l and end walls 2. The receptacle herein shown is provided with an open bottom and top portion as clearly illustrated in the drawing. The side walls l of the receptacle are provided at their upper edges with inwardly directed guide flanges or stops 3 which are disposed in spaced relation to each other so as to provide an eXit passage 4 at the top of the receptacle. The end walls 9. have their upper edge portions disposed in spaced relation to the flanges or stops 3 so as to provide discharge slots 5 at the ends of the receptacle for a purpose to be hereinafter more fully described. An elastic band or similar yieldable member 6 is carried by the receptacle and is provided with leads 7 and 8 which are connected to each other by end portions 9 disposed outwardly of the end walls 2. The construction of the band or yieldable member is such that the lead S extends longitudinally across the open bottom portion of the receptacle and the lead 7 is disposed between the end walls 2. The upper and lower edge portions of the end walls 2 are rounded so that their engagement with portions of the elastic band will not tend to mutilate the same as will be understood. A follower or plate l0 is inserted Within the receptacle and is free for vertical sliding movement therein. The follower is disposed immediately above the lead 7 of the elastic band so that the latter normally exerts its tension against the follower.

The invention dislosed is particularly adapted as a receptacle or holder for car tickets and as illustrated particularly in Fig. 2 a series of tickets A are inserted within the receptacle and are seated upon the follower or plate l0. The construction of the device is such that the uppermost ticket of the series shown will always be held yieldingly against the anges or stops 3 which extend from the side walls l of the receptacle.

In operation, when it is desired to remove a ticket the operator of the device may hold it in one hand so that the thumb is positioned between the flanges or stops 3. Upon downward and forward movement of the thumb with sufficient pressure against the uppermost ticket of the series shown it is obvious that one of the end portions of the ticket will be ejected from one or the other of the discharge slots 5 depending upon the movement of the thumb of the operator.

In assembling the parts forming my improved ticket holder, the elastic band 6 is stretched across the end walls 2 so that its leads 7 and 8 assume the positions hereinbefore described, after which the follower or plate l0 can be inserted between the side walls l and engaged with the uppermost lead of the elastic band so that said followerI will be yieldingly held against the flanges or stops 3. After the parts have been thus assembled a series of tickets may be inserted b y way of one of the discharge passages 5 into the receptacle and seated immediately upon the follower and confined between the same and the 'flanges or stops 3.

I claim A ticket holder comprising a receptacle having open upper and lower end portions, said receptacle having spaced side walls and spaced end walls whichlatter `connect the said side walls, stop 'lianges at the upper end of the side walls, said end walls terminating at their upper edges short of the flanges to form passages at the ends of the receptacle., a follower located in the recep tacle, and an elastic element engaged with the end walls and having a portion underlying the follower whereby the tension of the said elastic element is exerted against the follower to hold the tickets compressed and to cause the outermost ticket to lie directly against the stop flanges and to lie in line with the passages formed at the ends of the receptacle.
