REFLECTOR AND ATTACHMENT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY DOLIER, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Rutherford, in the State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Reflectors and Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to means for attaching to the socket of an electrical incandescent lamp a shade or reflector made of glass or other vitreous material.

It is the object of my invention to provide an attachment for the purpose above stated which shall be simple, cheap to manufacture, and easily attachable to socket and reflector.

For an illustration of one of the forms my invention may take, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a vertical elevational View of lamp and socket, the shade or reflector attachment being shown in section. Fig. 2- is a side elevational view of a resilient split ring member forming part of the attachment. Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of a connecting or extension member forming part of the attachment. And Fig. 4: is a side elevational view of a resilient split ring member forming part of the attachment.

S is an incandescent lamp socket having a bead b. The resilient split ring member 1*, shown in elevation in Fig. 2, has a bead a adapted to register with the socket bead ('2 and has also a bead shoulder 0 between which and the lip or flange (Z is held or confined the inturned lip or flange e of the extension or connector member 7'.

The ring member 1* is split or has a gap as shown at 9, Fig. 2, whereby the ring is circumferentially resilient so that it may be snapped into the position shown in Fig. l with respect to the reducing connector or extension member f, and may be then snapped over the bead b, a reinforcing or stiffening bead it being provided.

At its lower end the connector or extension member has a bead forming an internal flange or channel in which is adapted to snap or spring the lip is on the split resilient ring member m. Beneath this flange or lip 70 is formed a bead 11. And at the lower portion of the ring member m is formed a bead 0 adapted to embrace and engage the bead-like formation or projection 72 upon the shade or reflector R made of glass or other vitreous material of any suitable shape or form or Specification of Letters Patent.

design. The ring member m is reinforced by the wire 9 which is secured to the ring member m by spinning the edge around the wire 9.

The ring member m is split or has a gap 8,

as shown in Fig. 4:, so that its lip or flange 70 may snap into the bead and so that the bead 0 may snap over and hold the projection 79 of the shade or reflector R.

The reflector or shade R has an opening to admit the incandescent lamp L which engages in the socket S in the usual manner.

What I claim is:

l. The combination with an electric lamp socket, of a glass or vitreous shade or reflector, and means for supporting said shade or reflector upon said socket comprising a resilient ring member engaging said shade or reflector, an extension member engaged by said ring member, and a resilient ring member engaging said extension member and said socket.

2. The combination with an electric lamp socket, of a glass or vitreous shade or reflector, and means for attaching said shade or reflector to said socket comprising a split resilient ring member engaging a projection on said shade or reflector, a connector or extension member engaged by said ring member, and a split resilient ring member engaging said extension or connector member and said socket.

3. The combination with a socket, of an electric lamp supported thereby, a glass or vitreous shade or reflector, said shade or reflector embracing said lamp below said socket, a split resilient ring member engaging a projection on said shade or reflector, a reducing extension or connector member engaged by said ring member, and a split resilient ring member engaging said socket and said reducing connector or extension member.

4:. The combination with an electric lamp socket, of a glass or vitreous shade or reflector, a bead thereon, and means for supporting said shade or reflector upon said socket comprising a ring member, a bead on said ring member registering with the bead on said shade or reflector, an extension member engaged by said ring member, and a ring member engaging said extension member and supporting the same upon said socket.

5. The combination with an electric lamp socket, of a lamp held therein, a glass or vitreous shade or reflector having an aperture through which said lamp may extend to I said socket, a ring member having a bead engage in said socket, a ring member engaging said shade or reflector, an extension member engaged by said ring member, and a ring member engaging said extension member and supporting the same upon said socket.

6. The combination with an electric lamp socket, of a lamp held therein, a glass or vitreous shade or reflector having an aperture through which said lamp may extend to engage in said socket, a bead upon said shade or reflector about said aperture, a ring member having a bead registering with said shade or reflector bead, an extension member engaged by said ring member, and a ring member engaging said extension member and supporting the same upon said socket.

7. The combination with an electric lamp socket, of a lamp held therein, a bead upon registering with said socket bead, a tapering extension member supported by said ring member and embracing said lamp, a second ring member engaging said extension member at its aperture of greater diameter, a bead on said second ring member, a glass or vitreous shade or reflector having an aperture through which said lamp may extend into said socket, and a bead on said shade or reflector about said aperture, said bead upon said second ring member registering with said shade or reflector bead.
