To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD EDWARD EVE, manager to manufacturing gold and silver smiths, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 6 Bird street, London, W., England,- have invented new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in boxes and is especially applicable to such boxes or cases as are used for containing cigars, cigarettes or visiting cards.
A box made in accordance with this invention, consists of two main members and a strip to which one member of the box is hinged and to which the other member of the box is attached in such manner that it can slide thereon in a direction parallel to the axis of the hinge.

Figure 1 shows a plan of the opened case. Fig. 2 shows a transverse section thereof at the hinged connection between the case members. Fig. 3 shows a plan of one of the box members and also of the strip from which it is detached.

The outer ends of the pins 7 are slightly enlarged, as shown, and are firmly secured to a fillet h, the arrangement being such that the member 6, while being permanently connected with the strip 7), can have a short movement relatively to the member a. in a line parallel with the axis of the hinge. lVhen the members a and e are in the relative position shown in Fig. 1, and the case is closed, a catch 2' on the part c enters a slot j in the flange 7: of the member a, and the case is fastened by sliding the member 0 on the strip Z). This movement causes the catch *1. to engage with the underside of the flange 7v. To open the case, the parts are moved in the reverse direction.
lVhat I claim is:
1.. A box, comprising two main members, each of which is provided with a catch member, a strip hinged to one of these members and having an endwise sliding connection with the other member in a direction parallel with the axis of the hinge, whereby the catch members may be engaged and disengaged, substantially as described.
2. A box, comprising two main members, each of which is pfovided with a catch memher, a strip hinged to one of these members and which is provided with slots arranged parallel with the axis of the hinge, and pins on the other member of the box which extend into the slots and permit one member of the box to move relatively to the other member in a direction parallel with the axis of the hinge when the box is closed. whereby the catch members may be engaged and disengaged.
3. A box, comprising two main members, each of which is provided with a catch memher, a strip hinged to one of these members provided with slots arranged parallel with the axis of the hinge, pins on one of the box members extending through these slots, a fillet attached to the ends of the pins outside the strip, said box members being movable relatively to each other in a direction parallel with the axis of the hinge when the box is closed, whereby the catch members may be engaged and disengaged.
