Be it known that l, "uaaan Sonata-1min, citizen of the United States. residing at [)u- 1 buque, in the county of Duhuque and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful lmproveinents in Devices for Locking Corks in Bottles, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to means for locking corks in bottles with special reference to applying and retaining them in bottles eontaining root. beer or other etl'ervescent liquids, and the object is to provide a device that can bequickly conveniently and se-, curely applied to the cork of the bottle and which can be operated by any person not an expert and without special tools; and further, when applied. will lock and retain the cork securely.

For the purpose of conveniently accomplishing the objects sought I provide a sun-- ple device set out in the following specification when considered in connection with forming a part hereof.

Referring to the drawings. 2 designates the body oi one of the twohandles and t the other handle. 'lhese handles are preferably made of flexible and highly annealed wire. The handle 2 is bent at one end into a loop 5 and provided with a knob (ii-ring (3 at the other end. The handle 4 is bent at one. end into a loop similar to the loop 5 and also provided with a knob or ring 10.

The manner of operating" this device is substantially as follows: The operator first inserts the knob t' of the handle t through the loop 5 and at the same time the knob 10 through the loop 8 and then taking hold of the knobs t) and ltl he places the handles on opposite sides of the neck 12 of the bottle with the bodies of the handles tangent. to the opposite Sltltw' of the neck of the bottle, as shown in Fig. 3, and then draws the handies .2 and 4: through thcloops 5 and8 in oppositedirections till the loops are. drawn snugly against theneck 12 of the bottle and the body of each handle encircles half around. the. neck-0t the bottle. The operator then ln'ings the free ends of the wires together at the top of the cork l5 and twists them till they rigidly engage the eo'rk. If

It will be seen by this mode of locking the cork in a bottle that there is required no special 1)IQptllt ltl()l1, l'l'lill) the locking may be done in an exceedingly short length of time, that no special tools are required and that it can be accomplished by any person without experience.

Having now described my invention, what. I claim is:

1. In 'a device of the class described and 'in combination with the neck of a bottle, two

handles disposed on opposite sides of the neck of a bottle, and means secured to each handle adapted to be engaged by the handle on the oppositeside of the neck of the bottle and by the handles drawn toward each other.
