To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, ISADOR ROGGENBURG, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bow-Fastening Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to frames for bows or ties for ornamental purposes, and especially to frames for bows or knots which may be employed in connection with shoes for ornamental purposes.

Among the objects of my invention, the following may be noted: to provide a bowframe which may be quickly applied to, and removed from, a bow; to provide a bowframe for the purposes just stated, which will stiffen and support a made-up tie or bow at the top of a lace of a shoe, thus obviating the necessity for providing long and expensive laces, or labor in the tying of the shoe-lace into a neat bow; and to provide a simple, neat and effective device by means of which bows may be universally adapted and used as an article of wear.

Vith the above objects in view, and others which will be set forth during the course of this description, my invention consists in the parts, features and combinations of elements hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings forming part of this description: Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a bow, with the central or tie portion at the back removed, in order to disclose the mode of attaching and holding the bow in place; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of my fastening device.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates the bow, provided with a frame of my invention, which may be applied to a shoe, for example, so as to cover the bow or knot of the lace and be held by the top pair of eyelets thereof.

The bow 1 may be of any character desired and the form shown is merely for the purpose of illustrating the adaptation of my invention. A fastening means, which illustrates the idea of my invention, is shown in the figures, and consists of a pair of hooks 2, which may be of any ordinary form of construction, and which are provided with securing eyes 3 of usual form. These hooks are connected to the opposite ends of my resilient holder formed by means of wire bent so as to produce a flat, frame-like structure which will not only he snuglyi against the shoe, when the bow is in place, but will also afford a substantial support for the tie-portion 4 of the bow, thus keeping the latter always in good shape and form.

In Fig. 2, the fastening device is shown to consist of two wires bent in substantially the same manner, each of which has the longitudinal, central bar 5 terminating at each end in spring-loops 6, which may be formed by one or more turns, as desired, the said wire being then extended transversely across the bar 5 ateach eye to form the cross-pieces 7, which are again bent in opposite directions to form the longitudinal extensions 8, which terminate in hooks 9 passed through the eyes 8 of the hooks 2. The rectangular frame thus produced is sufficiently extensive to afiord a substantial support and frame for the tie-portion 4 of the bow, as aforesaid, and the coils 6 constitute springs permitting the extensions 8 to yield longitudinally, or expand under pull, so that the hooks may be caught in the eyes of the shoe, the said coils 6 drawing the said hooks taut when the bow has been set in place, as described.

It will be understood that the size of the fastening device will be such that the distance apart of the hooks 2, will be slightly less than the distance between the eyelets of the article to which the bow is to be attached, and, in consequence, the fastening device will be applied and held under tension.

Some shoes, or other articles of wearing apparel, may have hooks instead of eyes at the place where it is desired to aflix the bow, in which case the bow will be provided with eyes instead of hooks.

It will now be readily understood that my invention is not limited to any particular form of how, nor is it limited in the mode of its use or application; and it is to be distinctly understood that, while I have mentioned a shoe for the purpose of illustrating its mode of use and application, I do not purpose being limited to this particular application.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
