To all whom it may concern:

- Be it known that I, GEORGE A. Lmrnn'r, of Anderson, county of Madison, and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Folding Bed-Couch; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts.

The object of this invention is to provide a satisfactory construction of folding bed couch that in one position of the parts is adapted to form a satisfactory couch, lounge or settec, and in another position of the parts forms a double bed.

The chief feature of this invention consists in hinging the two ends of the couch at the inner lower corner of each end, so that the ends can other and down to form the central section of the bed, the back of the couch being turned backwardly vand down to vform one section of the bed, and the seat of the couch being drawn forwardly to form another section thereof. In connection with the foregoing, the ends are externally upholstered so that when turned down, the upper side thereof will be upholstered similar to the other section of the bed.

The nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims:

There is a frame 10, which constitutes the lower portion of the couch and supports the central portion of the same when formed into a bed. The back 11 is hinged at 12 to said couch frame 10, and when folded down, as shown in Fig. 2, to form one member of the bed, the outer edge thereof is supported by legs 112, which are adapted to fold in against the back when turned upwardly to form a couch or lounge.

The seat 13 of the couch or lounge rests upon the frame 10' and when the device is converted into a bed, said seat member is slipped longitudinally to the front, so that be folded toward each t folded up to the inner edge will rest upon the edge of the frame 10, and the outer edge will be supported by legs 14 that fold in like the legs 112. There are hooks 15 on the inner edge of the seat 13 sliding in slots in the top of the frame 10 for the purpose of preventing the seat member 13 from being drawn entirely off the frame, and for holding it in place when formed into a bed.

The frame 10 is made a little longer at each end than the bed to provide for the ends 16 of the couch. Each end is connected with the frame by a pair of hinges 17. rIhese hinges are at t-he lower inner corners of the end members, so that they may be folded inwardly, as shown in Fig. 3. They are preferably made of such height that when folded inwardly, the ends will abut against each other, and together the two end members form the central portion of the bed. When form a couch, the ends 16 are strongly connected and held together by a hook andV eye construction 1S, as indicated in Fig. 5, or other suitable means, which will occur to anyone understanding the art. The ends of the sections 16 are erfectly upholstered on both sides, especially on the outer side, so that when folded down to form a bed, the .upholstered side will be uppermost.

That I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A convertible bed couch including a frame, aback member hinged to the frame so it can be turned outwardly to form one section of the bed, a seat member slidable forwardly to form another section of the bed, folding legs for supporting said seat and back members, end members hinged to the frame at their inner lower edges whereby they may be turned downwardly toward each other and their free ends abut each other to form the central section of the bed, and means for detachably uniting the end members with the back member when folded up to form a couch or lounge.
