Application filed April 24, 1908. Serial No. 429,091.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WiLLIAM A. WALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marianna, in the county of Lee and State of Arkansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to belt fastenings, and the object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap and efiective device of this character which is adapted to be attached to the ends of belting to flexibly connect the same without the employment of leather strips or analogous devices.
lVith the above object in view the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 of the belt connected by my improvement. I Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view upon the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
In the accompanying drawing the numerals 1 and 2 designate the ends of a belting. The said belt ends 1 and 2 are provided with a plurality of alining eyelets or V-shaped openings designated b the numeral 3 and adapted for the reception of connecting elements 4:. These elements 4: are each constructed of a single strand of resilient material and have one of their ends provided with hooks 5 which are adapted to be inserted within the eyelets 3 and retained therein in a manner presently to be described. The opposite end of each of these members l is bent to form suitable eyes 6. The eyes formed upon one of the members are in sub stantial alinement with the body portion of the member while opposite member f has its body portion centrally spaced apart and each of the spaced members is provided with a double coil as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1
of the drawing. It is to be understood that the element provided with the spread end upon which the double coils are formed are adapted for the reception of the eyes 7 of the elements provided with the single coils and that the space provided by the double coils is sufficient to allow for the insertion of the eyes 7 of the single coil. When these members are brought into engaged position with each other a suitable pintle, designated by the numeral 8 is inserted within the eyes thereby providing an effective hinged pin. The hook members 5 are inserted through the openings 3 and a suitable pin 8 having its extremities provided with offsets 9 is inserted within the mouths of the hooks 5 and thus effectively secure the belt ends 1 and 2 flexibly together.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
The combination with two sections of belting, each of said sections being provided with spaced alining openings positioned a distance from their meeting edges, resilient connecting members for the belting, said members each having one of their ends provided with a hook having a mouth portion normally contacting the body of the connecting member, eyes upon the opposite ends of the members, one of said members having its end provided with the eyes spaced apart to provide for the reception of the eye of the opposite member, a pintle connecting these eyes, the hooked ends of the members adapted to be inserted within the openings of the belting and for the reception of a fiat key having its ends provided with offsets.
