In the use of my invention be easily and quickly taken apart and assembled and the construction is strong, rigid and durable and less liable to disorder than with instruments of its kind, heretofore used.
My invention is simple and inexpensive in construction and the parts can be easily and quickly renewed or repaired when worn and the electric connections uncovered.

The stand is provided witl a hollow base 2 and a tubular standard 3, the latter fitting snugly into an opening 4 in the shell of the base and being provided with a circular shoulder 5 which supports the hollow standard upon the base. At the upper end of the standard is a head piece 9 which is formed with aplug fitting snugly into the standard and a circular recess 10 into which the end of the standard projects and by which the standare .socketed together. Extending between the plug or head piece and the stop plate 5 is a tie-rod 11 which isthreaded on its upper and lower ends, the upper end being screwed into the plug and locked by the nut 12 and the lower end passing' through the stop plate 6 to which it is secured by means ,of the space nut 13. In this manner and by the construction above set forth the head piece, hollow standard and hollow base are secured together and can be easily and quickly taken apart'and assembled.
The lower portion of the hollow base is closed by a base plate 14 in the form of a disk, through which the lower extremity of the tie-rod 11 passes and is secured against the space nut 13 by a nut 14. The base plate is recessed at 15 to receive the nut 14 below the surface thereof. The nut 14 serves to lock the space nut and prevent it from unscrewing as well as to'hold the base plate securely against the shell of the hollow base. Upon the peripheryof the base plate is a ring 16 made of leather or other suitable material which is used for the purpose of preventing the base of the instrument from marring furniture upon which the desk set may be placed. This ring impinges against the inner wall audits surface projects below the lower edge of the shell of thc'basc. The inner portion of the leather ring is slotted longitudinally and the perimeter of the base plate is fitted into saidslot to hold 100 the ring upon the plate. The ring may be in the form of a ointed strip or band as may be desired.
The stop plate 6 is formed with a hanger 7 upon which are mounted switch springs 18 and 19. These springs are adapted to be connected to open and close the circuit of the instrument. They are secured upon the insulating strips 20 by means of screws 21. The lower switch springs are connected.

The head piece 9 is provided with the usual transmitter support 33, to which the transmitter is adapted to besecured such as screws 34. This transmitter support is oined to the head piece by a. pivot connec tion 35. The electrical conductors 36 leading from the transmitter pass through, an
opening 37 in the transmitter support, and an opening 38 and branch openings 39, the latter in the head piece, leading into the hollow standard, through which said conductors are passed into' the base. The head piece or plug in the hollow standard is cut away at 40 to form an opening through which the conductors may pass freely from the head piece into the standard.
Depending from the stop plate in the base is an insulating terminal block ll which is secured thereto by means 0*? screws l2. Terminal pieces 43 of usual form are mounted upon the terminal block by which any desired connection may be made with condnctors leading from the outside circuit, re ceiver and transmitter. In use when the receiver is taken off of its hook the push rod is automatically raised into superior position by means of the spring" into the position shown in Fig. 41 of the drawings. When the receiver is hung upon its hook the push rod is depressed and the switch springs opened into the position illustrated in Fig. 6. When it is desired to take the telephone set apart the nut 14' is removed and the base plate taken off of the tie-rod 11. The space nut 13 is then removed and the remaining parts of the instrument separz ted.
It will be noted that the manner of associating the parts illustrated in Fig. 2' together as a unit which can be separated without disturbing any of its parts from the stand and of clamping the standard, base, base plate and support for the switch s rings amt-terminals together, produces an e ective and etticient means by which the telephone set can be easily and quickly taken apart, for the purpose ot making adjustments and repairs, and a rigidt'rame for-supporting the working parts and it reduces the liability of the instrument to disorders to which instruments of this character are subject. I

A. telephone set, comprising, in combination, a hollow transmitter and a unit associated with said parts and upon which said transmitter .is carried, comprising a. head, a transmitter support pivoted upon said head, a tie-rod in said standard and extending between said head and base, a switch hook pivoted upon said head, a push piece impinging upwardly against said switch hook and extending downwardly into said base, a support atthe lower end of said standard and in said base, switch springs carried by said support and adapted to be operated when said push piece is raised or lowered, means for raising said push piece into superior position and means for clamping said unit, standard, support and base together for the purposes specified.

14.. A device of the class set forth, co1n prising, in con'ibination, a hollow standard,
a hollow base, a holder keyed into said base" and standard, a head on said standard, a tie-rod clamping said parts together, a receiver hook pivoted upon sa1d head, switch springs carried upon said holder, a push piece below said receiver hook and operatively associated with said springs, a base plate through which said tie-rod projects and a nut on said tie-rod holding said base plate upon said base, for the purposes specified.
A telephone set, comprising, in cornbination, a hollow standard 3, a hollow base a transmitter, a unit associatedwith said parts and upon which said transmitter is carried, comprising a head 9, a transmitter support pivoted upon said head, a tierod 11 in said standard and extending be-' tween said head and base, a switch hook D a band of protecting inaterial 16 secured to the periphery of said base plate and a nut 14 on said tie-rod securing said base plate against said space nut and the cushioning strip against the inner wall of said base, for the purposes specified.
