To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN G. SINCLAIR, subject of Great Britain, residing at East Orange, county of Essex, and State ofNew Jersey, have invented a new and Amusing Toy, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and amusing toy, and has for its object to provide a collapsible tank which may be filled with water in which a toy boat may be placed and provide means below the water line for guiding said boat in its movements, said guides being easily removed from the tank or the contour of the same may be easily changed so as to change the course of the boat guided thereby.
.Vith these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same the construction and operation will now be described in detail, referring to the accompanyin g drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1, is a perspective of the tank made in accordance with my device showing the guideways therein and a boat adapted to follow the same. Fig. 2, a detail perspective of two meeting ends of the guideway and the shoe for holding said ends in place. Fig. 3, a detail of one of the corners of the tank showing the manner of securing it together. Fig. at, is a central vertical section of a portion of the tank, clearly showing the arrangement of the clips for securing the sides and bottom together. Fig. 5, a section of the line 4% of Fig. 2.
A represents the tank which is composed of the side pieces B, end pieces C, and bottom D, the side pieces having the right angular clips E secured thereto, the outer end of said clips being bent downward so as to embrace the end pieces C. The bottom D also has secured thereto the right angular clips F, the ends of which are bent upward so as to embrace the end pieces and likewise has secured thereto the right angular clips G, whose ends are bent upward so as to embrace the side picces B.
A pin H is set in each end of the end pieces C and these pins are adapted to engage holes formed in the downward bent ends of the clips E so that if the latter are sprung from the end pieces and engage with said pins the tank will be held in rigid position.
I is a rubber lining or other water-tight material fitted within the tank so as to make it water-tight and which may be removed and folded when the tank is to be collapsed.
My improved tank has been described and may be used by placing any suitable guide way J therein which is supported in any suitable manner by the shoes K, which guide way may serve to guide the boat L, having any suitable hanger M adapted to engage the guide way and when the tank is not in use it may be readily collapsed for storage or shipment. This feature is exceedingly advantageous where large tanks are used for fairs or other large exhibitions, and is also advantageous for use in connection with smaller toys for household amusements.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, is
In a collapsible tank of the character described the combination of a bottom, side pieces, end pieces, two right angular clips having vertical legs, said clips being spaced near each corner of the bottom and secured thereto at right angles to each other, the vertical legs of said clips engaging the outer faces of said side pieces, right angle spring clips having vertical legs, one of said clips being secured to the upper edge of each side piece at each end thereof, the verticallegs of said spring clips adapted to engage or disengage the end pieces and having openings in their vertical legs, a pin located near ach end of the end pieces and adapted to engage said openings, and a collapsible rubber lining located within the tank to prevent leakage.
