GEORGE V. FAIR, OF PRIMROSE, PENNSYLVANIA.
CAM P-STOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 648,863, dated May 1, 1900.
Application filed December 16, 1899. fierial No. 740,553. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that l, GEORGE \V. FAIR, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Primrose, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Camp-Stools, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in camp-stools, and particularly relates to folding or collapsible campstools.
One object of my invention is to construct a camp-stool of this character which can be easily set up and when folded or knocked down form a small and compact package.
A further object of my invention is to construct a camp-stool of this character with means for securing the supports for the seats and the legs to a central standard when not in use.
A further object of my invention is to construct a camp-stool of this character which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, and efficient in its use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the above and other objects in view my invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, andwherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved camp-stool when set up. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a top plan View thereof. Fig. 4 is a perspective View thereof when the parts are folded. Fig. 5 is Fig. 6 is ard and supporting-legs for the seat, showing these legs in the extended position.
Referring to the drawings by referencenumerals, 1 indicates a central supportingstandard which is cylindrical in shape and provided with a series of elongated grooves 2 and a series of eyes 3, arranged thereon. The
top and bottom of the standard 1 has suitably secured thereto a concentric disk 4, provided with a centrally-arranged opening which fits neatly around the offset 5, formed on the top and bottom of the supporting-standard. The disks 4 are provided with openings to receive fastening means 6 for'securing the same to the top of the standard and provided with a series of suitably-arranged openings registering alternately with the elongated grooves 2, formed in the periphery of the standard.
7 indicates a series of legs which operate within the grooves 2 and which are provided with a stop-lug 8, adapted to engage the lower disk 4: to arrest the outward movement of the legs when extended. The tops of the legs 7 are formed at an incline, as at 9, and operate within suitable-shaped recesses arranged in the lower portion of the standard 1. By this arrangement the legs can be extended in the manner as shown. The bottoms of the legs are also formed at an incline, as at 10, to per mit of engaging the floor or ground when extended to hold the stool in a vertical position.
11 indicates the supports for the seat 12, which is formed of any suitable fabric and is adj ustably secured tothe supports in any desirable manner. These supports are of the same construction as the legs, but of less length. The lower ends thereof are secured to the top of the standard 1 in the same manner as the tops of the legs when the supports are extended to receive the seat. The upper ends of the supports are formed at an incline, so that the seat will be secured thereto on a horizontal plane when the supports are ex tended.
The grooves arranged in the standard 1 al ternately receive the supports 11 and legs 7, and when the stool is folded the legs and sup ports are secured to the standard by means of the eyes 3.
It is thought that the manner of setting up my improved stool can be understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, as well as the many advantages obtained by constructing my improved stool in the manner set forth, and it will be noted that Various changes may be made in the details of con strnction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a folding stool, the combination of a solid supporting-standard provided on its periphery With a series of elongated grooves terminating alternately at their upper and lower ends in a recess, a concentric offset arranged at the top and bottom of the said standard, a concentric disk provided with a centrally-arranged opening, mounted upon the top and bottom of said standard and surrounding said offset, said disks further provided with a series of openings registering alternately with the ends of the said grooves, a series of supports operating through the openings bf the disk at the upper end of the standard and in each registering groove, said supports when extended adapted to receive and support a seat upon their upper ends and be secured at their lower ends in the upper of said recesses, a series of legs operating through the openings in the disk at the bottom of said standard and in each registering groove, said legs adapted when extended to support said standard and to have their upper ends socured in the lower of said recesses, means connected to said legs for limiting the outward movement thereof, and means secured to the periphery of said standard for connectin g said supports and standards thereto when not extended, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
