To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES MUROHIE, citizen of the United States, residing at Traverse City, in the county of Grand Traverse and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Anchors for Stovepipes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a novel construction in a device for securing stove pipe to chimney fines to prevent withdrawal or separation thereof, the object being to provide a simple and efficient device of this character and consists in the features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings illustrating this invention Figure -l' is a view partly in section and partly in elevation showing a stove pipe secured to the chimney line by means of a device constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2- is a plan view of a device constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 3- is a side elevation of the same.

Stove pipes are inserted in openings in the chimney fines and are usually supported by means of wires attached to the ceiling of the room. Usually no means are provided for preventing the withdrawal from the opening in the chimney flue of the end of the pipe inserted therein. Accordingly it frequently happens that such pipe becomes withdrawn whereby the room is caused to become filled with smoke and frequently a the results, which destroys the premises.

The object of my present invention is to provide a very simple and eflicient device for so anchoring the stove pipe with relation to the chimney flue as to prevent separation of these two members.

My said device consists of two members A and B made of strap metal and adjustably connected together, the member A being provided between its ends with downwardly extending projection C and at another point between its ends with projection 1) extending upwardly therefrom and bent to extend parallel therewith thus providing a recess E in which the end wall of the stove pipe is adapted to be received. The other end portion of said member A is provided with a longitudinal slot F through which the shank of a set screw or bolt G is adapted to pass.

The member B is L-shaped, one arm thereof extending parallel with the projection G of the member A and the other arm thereof lying upon the slotted end portion of the member A and being provided with an opening for the passage of said set screw or bolt Gr, said overlapped ends of said members A and B being thus capable of being relatively longitudinally adjusted in position and secured in said positions by means of said set screw or bolt G. The object of such relative adjustment of said members A and B is to adjust the relative positions of the projection C and the downwardly extending arm of the member B to accord with the thickness of the wall of thechimney flue, the latter being adapted to be confined between said parts when said device is inserted in the opening adapted to receive the delivery end of the stove pipe. After the insertion of the said device and adjusting the same, the stove pipe is inserted so that one portion of the wall thereof is received in the recess E, the latter constituting a stop which limits the inward movement of the stove pipe into said opening in flue.

The extreme end portion of the member A constitutes the tongue H which is provided with an opening I through which a wire J is adapted to be passed, the latter being adapted to be passed or looped around a portion of the pipe extending transversely to the inserted end portion and obviously serving to prevent said inserted end portion from being withdrawn.

I claim as my invention:

The combination with a chimney fine, a stove-pipe entering the same, and an elbow interposed in the said pipe, of an anchor comprising two flat sheet metal members, there being a longitudinal slot in one of said members and a perforation in the other thereof, a bolt passing through said perforation and said slot and adjustably connecting said members, a projection at the end of one of said members, a projection between the ends of the other of said members disposed parallel with said first-named projection, said projections being adapted to receive the wall of the chimney flue therebetween, a second projection on said longitudinally slotted member extending from the opposite face thereof and having a free end portion disposed parallel with the body of said member, both said projections being name in the presence of two subscribing formed by folding said member upon ltself, witnesses.
