5 tain new and useful Improvements in Shade- Holders, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved shade-holder particua shade employed on light-fixtureasuch as electric light-fixtures or electroliers, or gas-fixtures.

A further obj ect'of the present invention is to provide a shade-holder of the class 5 above mentioned that may be readily attached to and removed from such fixtures without the necessity of removing the bulb of a1i-electric-light fixture or the burner of a gas-fixture.

A still further objectof my invention is to provide a construction of such a nature that when-used in connection with electric light-fixtures the holder may be attached to and removed from the fixture by simply giving a quarter turn to the electric light socket and adjusting the holder thereto by means of the shade supporting-member of the holder.

Referring to the drawings, 2 designates-a 5 5 shade supportingmember or ring of the holder adapted to support an annular shade, notshown, of the usual or any desired style. Supporting-member 2 is annular in form and is made of an elastic or fiexiblemetal strip or piece which, owing to its elasticity,

may be bent slightly. Connected to the supporting-member by means of curved and radially extending arms 3, is a central base or clamping-member 4, preferably made in two parts or sectionsa and b, as shown by the various forms illustrated, although the base-member may comprise a number of sectionsfgreater than two. In the form of member shown by Fig. 10 the base-member comprises four parts orseetions.

I have illustrated various orms of base- .inembers showing some of the -modified forms the sections or parts may assume and the different manner of assembling and looking the parts together followed in making shade-holders constructed in accordance with my invention, but other modifications may be employed in which the lateral adjustment of the sections or parts of the base may be effected by slightly bending the supportingmember 2 that will come within the scope of my invention.

Each section or part of the base formed with a cutaway portion, as shown at 5, and is adapteth'when in position, to fit around a threa(led-portion 6 of the fixture-stem 7. Fixture-stem 7 projects into the socket-stein 8 of the electric-light or a similar socket of a gas-burner, and the lower end of the socket-stem is designed to rest upon the sections or parts of the base'member -as clearly shown by Fig. 1. The form of Fig. 1 illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention; in this form, each section or part a and b is formed with an-eng'aging-slot, 9 adapted to receive a pin or rivetlO of a pivoted thumb-latch 11, the latter being sc cured to each of the members by a rivet 12." The -means just described constitute the locking means for locking the parts a and I) together when said parts are adjusted in position on the fixture.

In. the other forms illustrated, I have shown, in addition to the base-memberproper and in conjunction therewith, an. annular plate or disk 13, also modifications of the sections or parts a and 1). Thus, in the form shown by Figs. '3, at, 5 and 6, the sections a and b areeach formed with a depending-flange 14 and with, slots 15, the latpin 16 of the plate or disk 13.

In the form of Fig. 7 the plate 13 has an upwardly extending flange 17 having cars 18 and engaging-rivets or headed-pins 16; in this form, the divided or sectional base is designed to fit into the annular-flange 17 and be secured on plate 13 by laterally projecting screws 19.

. In the form of Fig. 11 the plate 13 is provided with the flange l7 and the parts a and b of the base-member are secured to the plate by means of vertically extending screws 20.

Electric lamps, or electric portables, as they are known in trade, are put on the market with the Wiring complete, that is to say, with the wiring running up through the hollow stem-or standard and connected with tlie lamp-socket. With lamps of this class the shade-holder should be of sucha construc tion that it may be attached and detached Without twisting the wiring to any harmful degree. By formilfg the base-member of two or more sections as illustrated, I am able by giving .only a quarter turn tothe lampsocket, to raise-it sufficiently from the basemember to permit the sections thereof to be spread apart and the holder readily applied or removed without twisting the Wiring.

1. A shade-holder having a flexible shade supporting-member, a central base-member comprising tWo sections, means for locking the sections together, and an arm connecting each section and the shade supporting.

3. A shade-holder having a flexible shade supporting-member, a central base-member comprising two separable parts or sections,
