SKIRT-MARKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. *7, 1909.
Application filed July 21, 1909. Serial No. 508,835.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARAH E. CLINTON CAMPBELL, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of Hamilton, in the county of Wentworth, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Markers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in skirt markers in which an adjustable marker is adapted to be guided around the lower part of a vertically positioned skirt, and to mark a line parallel with the floor, on said skirt.
The objects of my invention are first, to provide stationary means whereby the lower part of a ladys dress skirt may be temporarily adjusted and fastened. to an exact hanging position, and a line marked on the skirt, parallel with the floor, second, to provide means whereby the parallel line may be adjusted to a higher and a lower position on the skirt, in order to define the length of the skirt. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of skirt marker, showing the lower part of a skirt in position to be marked. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same, the skirt being removed.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawing, the base, or floor, of the device is indicated by A, and is adapted to stand on the floor of a room. B, is a circular vertical wall, secured on and forming a part of the base A, and rigid therewith. A plurality of horizontal pins C'extend from the outer side of the Wall E at an approved distance from the top thereof. The pins C, are for the purpose of temporarily fastening the skirt D, to the wall B, the lady at this time standing on the base A, and inside the circular wall B.
E is a vertical post on a rigid base 2, the outer part of the base 2 is beveled to conform to the bevel 3, which forms an annular flange 4, around the outer edge of the base A. The post E is adapted to slide around the base A, and the bevel 3 of the flange prevents the post from lifting, thereby retaining and guiding the post E, in its circular movement while marking the skirt.
5, is a collar, or hub on the post and adapted to slide vertically thereon, as Well as having a horizontal movement. The thumb screw 6, is adapted to fasten the collar 5 to adjusted position on the post. On the opposite side of the collar 5 is a suitable socket 8 adapted to receive and retain a chalk pencil 9, which is used for marking a line on the skirt, said line denoting the desired length of the skirt, which may be from one to six inches more or less from the floor.
The post E has a series of horizontal lines 10, which may be numbered to indicate inches and half inches from the base of the floor.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A skirt marker comprising a circular base, a circular wall extending above the base, a beveled flange around the edge of the base and extending above in beveled or dovetail form, as a guide, a vertical post adapted to slide and travel on said base, and guided and retained by said beveled flange, and adjustable means on the post to mark a line parallel with said base, on a skirt positioned around said wall.
2. A skirt marker comprising a circular base, a circular wall extending above the base, a plurality of pins extending from the sides of the wall, a beveled guide flange around the top of the base in beveled or dovetail form, a vertical post having a base with beveled edge to conform to said beveled flange adapted to travel around and guided and retained by said guide, adjustable means on the post to mark a line, parallel with said base, on the lower part of a skirt positioned around said wall and retained in said position by means of said pins.
