To all whom 'it may concem:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. DEETER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Type-Writers, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to an improved attachment for typewriters, and more particularly to an improved eraser supporting clamp, the object of the invention being to provide an inexpensive construction of clamp, which can be sold to the trade at a' very low figure, and which is adapted for instant attachment to any form of type-v writer frame, and when so attached is adapt-A ed for supporting either a circular or an oblong eraser such as is in common use.
A further object is to provide improvements of this character which will securely hold the eraser in convenient position for instantly removed when necessary, and when the erasing operation is finished, canbe returned to the attachment andbe in convenient reach when again desired.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in -certain novel features of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1, is a perspective view Iillustrating my imrovements in position on the typewriter' ame. Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the attachment removed. Fig. 3, is a view in" section on line :ieof Fig. 2. Fig. 4, is a view of a blank from which the attachment is made, and Fig. 5, is a view similar to Fig. 3 illustrating a modified form.
A represents a typewriter frame suchas is employed on almost all forms of ewriters, but in no way constitutes a part of my invention., as myl attachment is adapted to be secured to any form of typewriter frame.
The attachment comprises a single spring metal blank bent into the form shown. The blank is shown in Fig. 4, and'is bent at the points 1 and 2 forming a clamp at both sides of the intermediate portion 3, and for clear; ness of description, I have placed the reference characters 4 and 5 respectively upon the spring tongue at the front and rear of .the frame A and the member 3. The rear tongue 5 is narrower than the mainportion of the attachment, and is given a general com ound curvature so that it can "be readily s lpped over securely hold the attach'- ment in position. p
The front tongue and the portion' are of substantially the same outline, being narrowest at their lower ends and curved outward toward their v'upper ends forming enlarged clamping plates to securely clamp theA eraser between them. The `outer tongue 4 has its side edges bent inward and toward the portion 3 to` constitute ipping edges 7 ar eraser, and is'- for securely holding a circ provided with a central' inwardly dented portion forming a hump 8 on the inner face of the tongue 4 to eflectually clamp an eraser ofthe rectangular or Yoblong type. Having thusdescribed my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
An attachment of the character described comprising a plate, a clamp thereon for supportlng said plate on a typewriter frame, a tongue inte al with the lower end of said plate and dlsposed in front ofthe same, and having inwardly bent side edges and a dep'essed portion intermediate of said side e ges. p
