INVENTUR WITNESSES:
Mk- BY Q. h
A TTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABIJAH B. MORGAN, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
PORTABLE SPRAYER.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, Ainaan' B. MonoAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the. county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Portable Sprayers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is to provide a device which can be conveniently carried on the person, and by means of which a gern'iicidal or other spray can be directed upon plants, trees, or other objects or places where it is desired to deposit a spray. It is especially suited for spraying household and garden plants, as the user can conveniently spray therewith intermittently, as required, and it can be carried on the person of the user without any danger of spilling the contents, or disfiguring the carpets or furniture of a house.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view showin the device in use; Fig. 2 is an enlarged bro (en front view of the device detached; Fig. 3 is a side view; Fig. 4 is an end view of the nozzle.
eferring to the drawing, 1 indicates a receptacle made of any suitable material, and of flat cylindrical form so that it can conveniently rest against the body of the user. In the present instance I have shown it as of a flat cylindrical form. This receptacle is closed except for the supply opening 2, which, in use, is closed b a screw cap 3, and for the discharge nozz e a. On the cylindrical surface of the receptacle are secured loo s 5, through which passes a strap 6 adapte to pass around the neck of the user to suspend the receptacle therefrom, and in order to prevent the receptacle swingin from the body of the user,-it is secured thereto by means of a strap 7 which passes through oops 8 secured on the back of the receptacle. On the discharge nozzle 4 is secured a rubber tube 9, which may be of any suitable length, and to the end of said tube is secured a rubber hand or bulb pump 10, having a rubber dischar e tube 11, in which is inserted the reduce tubular end of a sprayin nozzle 12, preferably of metal, although Specification of Letters Patent.

rial may be used. Said spraying nozzle is of considerable size compared with the tube 11, and is formed with a substantially flat outer end 13 having a large number of small perforations 14. through which the fluid is discharged in the form of spray. However, my invention is not restricted to any particular form of spraying nozzle, and I contemplate using with the invention various forms thereof, as may be required for different purposes.
\Vhen not in use the sprayer is supported upon the receptacle by means of a hook 15 secured upon the front side of the receptacle, which hooks over the discharge tube 11, and retains the same in place.
The mode of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing description. Thus, in using the same on garden plants, the user may inspect the plant, and, if any insects are discovered thereon or the sprayer is required to be used, it can be immediately detached from its support, and by pressure with the hand upon the bulb pump, the spray can be applied to the )arts affected. The sprayer can then be replaced in position and the next plant visited and treated in like manner. Pruning or other operations can be performed in the intervals between spraying. Its mode of use in the field is similar, a larger receptacle being naturally required for such use.
In my improved sprayer, the body of the can, having a fiat shape, is convenient to carry, and the straps are so arranged that the can may be carried either in front or on one side and will not shift from its position, while the nozzle or nose 12, when hung upon the hook 15, is out of the way, leaving both hands free, and not permitting any drippings of the liquid.
I claim:
The combination of a flat cylindrical receptacle having supply and discharge open ings at opposite parts of its cylindrical surface, means for closing the su ply opening, loops on said cylindr cal sur ace, a strap therethrough for suspending the receptacle from the body of the wearer, loops on one of the flat surfaces of the receptacle, a strap therethrough for securing it around the body In testimony whereof I have hereunto set of the wearer, a hand pump, a spraylng nozmy hand 1n the presence of two subscribing zlc, rubber t ublng (ZODIIGCUDg sald dlseharge wltnesses.
opening, hand pump and nozzle, and a hook ABIJ AH B. MORGAN. on the other flat surface, adjaeefififo ssiifl Witnesses: supply opening, and adapted to engage said FRANCIS M. VVRIGHT,
nozzle to support the same when not 1n use. D. B. RICHARDS.
