Letters Patent No. 94,126, dated August 24, 1869.

IMPROVED WAGON-REACH.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

, To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JAMES H. MOFFETT, ofiRead- 'ing, in the county ofHillsdale, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Extension Wagon-Reaches; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being hadtothe annexed drawings,

' making-a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a plan view of my in vention, full length.

. Figure 2 is a view of the reach, detached.

Figure 3 is a top view of the same.

My invention relates to wagon-reaches; and

It consists mainly in a novel arrangement of devices by which the distance between the axles of a wagon may be lengthened or shortened at will.

The letters A represent the arms or braces of my wagon-reach, and

The letter B my adjustable reach, arranged between the arms A, as shown.

This reach B is slotted, as shown at c, and it also has bolt-holes, as shown at (Z, and pin-holes, as shown at u.

' The letters 3 represent bolts that pass through both the braces and the reach-one of them passing through the slot, and the other through an opening, d, of the reach.

' The letter 1: represents a spring, arranged upon an arm, A, having an opening for the passage of a bolt,

s, and a pin that passes through the arm and into the reach in one of the openings n.

A duplicate of this spring is arranged upon the other arm in precisely the same manner.

To lengthen 01' shorten the distance between the axles, I remove the front bolt s, and readjust it in such openingof the reach as will secure the result desired.

The springs 1: force the pins into their appropriate openings in the reach, and aid in holding the same in security.

\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 7 Au extension-reach for wagons, having arms, A,

reach 13, bolts s and springs '19, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as specified.
