IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE-mils.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patentend making part of the same To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES H. MOFFETT, of Reading, in the county of Hillsdale, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Thimble-Skeins for Wagons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exaotidesoript-ion of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and fig= ures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a plan view of my in-- vention. I
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Figure 3 is a detail.
My invention has relation, to the manufacture of wagons; and
It consists mainly in the. construction and arrangement cf novel means for protecting the boxes of the wheels from sand and dirt.
The letter A of the drawings represents the box of a wheel in place, the letter B being the spindle of the axle.
. Thelletter 0 represents a nut holding the box in place, and which has a groove, 41:, extending entirely around its periphery. This grooved. nut serves to keep the sand or-other impurities from the front end of the box or spindle.
The letter D represents a grooved flanch, arranged upon the axle, at the rear end of the box, and resting against the'shoulders thereof. The grooves in the nut U and flanch D catch the sand or other impurity, and
hold it, thereby preventing the same from passing to the box. 7
What Iclaim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, lS-
The grooved nut-G and flauch D, constructed and arranged to operate-substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimonythat I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name, in the presence of two witnesses.
