Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR ADAMS, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVashtub-Covers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved cover for wash tubs or wash trays which is of a flexible character and susceptible of being rolled to partially or completely uncover the top of the tub or tray and to serve when in its extended position for covering the tub also as a desirable support for dishes with capability for more eflicient drainage than will be permitted by the ordinary flat board constituting the cover as heretofore usually employed.
Moreover this cover will not be injuriously affected by Water and it may be produced more readily and cheaply than the ordinary set tray cover which has usually been made of a single wide board,matched and glued up boards for a cover of this character not being considered suitable for the purpose.
The improved cover for a set tub or tray consists of a sheet of suitably flexible material, such a canvas, and a plurality of parallel separated longitudinally extending strips secured to one or both sides of a flexible sheet, the so formed cover at its rear edge being secured preferably by having one of its rear strips hinged to the rear upper portion of the top.
The improved cover is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which 1- Figure 1 is a plan View showiing the flexible cover as in its place on double set tubs. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on line 2-2, Fig. 1 with the cover in its extended position. Fig. 3 is a similar View but showing the cover as in its rolled-up position to leave the tub open. Fig. A is a cross sectional view through a portion of the cover showing double instead of single slats or strips.
In the drawings, A represents the tub or set tray, a portion thereof divided by the partition a being indicated in Fig. l and the tub or tubs have a ledge B at the rear of the top thereof, usually constituted by a straight flat board.
C represents the cover composed of a sheet I) of canvas, rubber cloth or like flexible material, the same having secured thereto in any suitable manner, as by rivets, a plurality of parallel longitudinally extending slats or strips (Z (Z which extend from end to end of the sheet 6, and the cover in its entirety having a length to overlap and rest upon the top of the end walls of the tub.
The rear slat or strip d of the series is by the hinges 7 connected to the front edge of the board or ledge B.
When desired to have the tub uncovered the slatted sheet is rolled up into along bunclle and then overturned onto the ledge B as permitted by the hinging of the rear slat (Z as indicated in Fig. 3.
Double sets of slats (Z, (1 may be provided as indicated in Fig. 4: if desired, a duplication of the slats being considered more desirable in some cases than the provision of such appliances on one side of the sheet only.
As usually tubs are commonly located at the end of a sink, the slatted top of the flexible top cover provides a good support for drainage of dishes washed in the sink; and the water which might run along between the slats and flow into the sink will be without eflect to warp the cover.
I claim A cover for a set tub or tray consisting of a sheet of suitable flexible material and a plurality of parallel separated longitudinally extending strips secured to the upper side of the flexible sheet,the so formed cover at its rear edge being secured to the rear of the top.
