Description

UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER P. LEWIS, OF WAUNETA, NEBRASKA.
WRENCH.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER P. Lnwrs, a citizen of the United States, residing at auneta, in the county of Chase and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vrenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of wrenches in which the jaws close upon the work by the grip of the hand, and it has for its object to provide a simple, strong, and durable wrench of this kind, and also one which can be readily adjusted to suit different-sized pipes.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation of the wrench. Fig. 2 is a face View of one of the j aw-members. Fig. 3 is a similar View of the other jaw-member. Fig. 4 is an elevation of the link which connects the two jaw-members.
Referring specifically to the drawing, the two jaw-members are indicated at 5 and 6, respectively. They are reduced at one end, and rounded or shaped into handles 7 by which the wrench is held and operated. At
the other end an adjustable connection between the j aw-members is provided, and adjacent said end the members are serrated to form opposite j aw-faces 8 which engage the pipe or other part to be turned.
The adjustable connection herein referred to is a threaded stem 9 which screws into a threaded opening extending transversely through the member 5 near the outer end Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 18, 1908.

Serial No; 427,922.
thereof. The stem is flattened at one end as indicated at 10 which end is pivotally secured to the member 6 by a transverse pin 11, said member having a forked outer end between the branches 12 of which the part 10 extends and is pivoted as stated.
The wrench herein described is simple in construction, strong and durable, and it can be readily adjusted to accommodate itself to pipes, rods, etc., of different sizes. The jawfaces 8 can be set closer together or farther apart by turning the member 5 on the screwstem 9. The serrations of the jaw-faces are presented in such a direction that the pipe or other part can be screwed up or unscrewed by simply turning the wrench over.
I claim:
A wrench comprising a pair of spaced longitudinal aw members comprising squared bars formed at one end into handles, a threaded stem directly connecting the opposite ends of said jaw-members, one of said members having a'transverse threaded opening into which one end of said stem is directly screwed, and a pivotal connection between the opposite end of said stem and the other of said jaw-members, forming a stationary fulcrum for said members. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
