Description

J. OPPENHEIM.
ADJUSTABLE HAMES FASTENBR.
APPLICATION FILEDJUNE 11 1908.
940,269 Patented Nov. 16, 1909'.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHANN OPPENHEIM, OF VIENNA, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
ADJUSTABLE HAIVIES-FASTENER.
f0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHANN Orrnnnnnr, manufacturer, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at III Neulinggasse 13, Vienna, in the Empire of Austria- Hungary, have invented ne 7 and useful Improvements in Adjustable flames-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an adjusting device for the jointed parts of adjustable horse collars, which admits of ad justment within small limits.
In the accompanying drawing the invention is illustrated in two constructions as applied to the lower jointed part of the hames as follows:
Figure 1 shows a front view of the device partially in section. Fig. 2 a similar view of another modification and Fig. 3 a view from below of one of the jointed parts of the hames.
The side parts 1 and 2 of the hames possess projections 3 in the usual manner, which projections engage through the jointed parts i and 5 of the under portion of the hames. For this purpose these jointed parts possess an opening in the form of a narrow slot 6. Underneath are provided cavities 7 and a connecting piece 8 engages by means of a projection 9 in one of these cavities. For the fixing of the collar the connecting piece is placed with its projection in the corre sponding cavity and then either a peg 10 driven through the openings of the projection 3, or the apparatus is fixed by means of nuts screwed upon the projection.
In the construction illustrated in Fig. 2 the jointed pieces are provided at their up per edge with the cavities 7 and the side parts 1 and 2 of the hames bear the projection 9 which is inserted in the cavity of the Specification of Letters Patent.

side part corresponding to that of the desired width of the collar. The like arrangement as described herein for the lower jointed part can also be applied for the corresponding upper part.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
1. A pair of hames having studs thereon arranged in pairs, a locking device comprising two members hinged together, each of said members having a longitudinal slot therein adapted to receive a pair of studs, and each member having a series of recesses on each side of the slot and arranged transversely, and transverse elongated projection carried by each hame and arranged between the studs forming a pair, and adapted to engage one of the transverse recesses so as to prevent longitudinal movement of the parts.
2. A pair of hames having studs thereon having openings in their outer ends, a locking device comprising two members hinged together, each of said members having a longitudinal slot therein adapted to receive said studs, a series of recesses on the outer face of said members, a bar 8 having a projection thereon adapted to engage with one of the recesses, and a pin passing through the holes in the studs to hold the bar in position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHANN OPPENHEIM.
