To all fwhom it may concern.'
lle it known that I, JAMES R. RASH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Henderson, in the county of Henderson and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Hat, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is, in a, novel and practical manner, without in the least detractinfr from the appearance, varying perceptib y the conventional lines or obliectionably adding to the cost of its production, to render a hat of any character permeable by light and air, whereby in a large measure, to )revent baldness resultingfrom the use of close fitting and dark interiored hats, and to cure eert-ain patliolo -cal conditions of the hair and scalp eaiise b the hot and confined atmosphere engendered by wearing hats of the ordinary construction.
'lhe invention further consists in a hat having its crown composed in part of a substance substantially transparent, and moisture-proof, the moisture-proof material being ornamented to simulatev closely the brim and the remaining portions of--the crown.

any material adaptedto the purpose, provided it be adapted to resist the action of the moisture, and that it be transparent or siibstaiitiiill so, and that it be vflexible and light. in weight. For this purpose, eelluloid is peculiarly adapted although mica or an j other material having the properties state may be employed.
In order that the improvement shall not detract from the appearance of the hat or cause it to be conslpicuous from an peculiarity, the materia will be stampe corrugated, or otherwise treated to cause it closely to simulate the material of the crown or of the brim, and, if desired, it may be slightly colored or tinted, but not sufficiently to detract from its light penetrable iiality.
As shown, the hat has its crown faghioned from a series of bands or crown formin members 6, having their` edges overlappe the upper band 7 of the series, being yieldable, and being extended within the contour of the crown of the hat to form a binding strip, the remainder of the bands 6 being fashioned from braided straw or the like. A tip 1 is assembled with the up )er band or binding strip 7, and is s acecl from the crown' of the hat, the tip lbeing fashioned from transparent, iniiltioriiced, waterroof material, and tinted to cories ond wit the crown. The tip l is provide with a series of annular corriigations 5, arran fed to simulate the overlapping edges of tie bands 6, the outer de ression 8, caused by the corrugations 5, ein arranged to receive the iipper band or binding strip 7. The upper band or binding strip 7 may be united by stitches 3 to the ti and the openings 4 in the' tip may be isposed in any desired manner.

water roof material tinted to correspond with t e crown, the tip being rovided with `annular corriigations to simu ate the over# lappin edges of the crown-forming mein- ;bers, t e outer depression caused by the corrugations being arranged to receive the binding-strip.
