Be it knownthatI, EPPA H. RYON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, 1n the county ofWorcester and State `of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Filling-Thread- Cuttmg Mechanism, of which the following 1s a specification. l
- My invention relates to a illin thread cutting mechanism for the filling t read of a spent. bobbin to be exchanged for anew bobbin 1n looms in which amaga-zine is used lto hold the vbobbins or filling carriers, and
transferring mechanism is used to transfer a bobbin from the magazine into the active shuttle, to take the place of the exhausted bobbin in the shuttle.

into operation through the operation of some part` of the transferring mechanism, and in my present improvements my filling thread cutting mechanism is also connected with. some partof the transferring mechanism, and is` brought into operation through the operation of some part of said mechanism.
I have only shown in the drawing a detached portion of a loom of the class referred to, with my filling thread cutting mechanism ap lied thereto, sufficient to enable those skl led in the art to` understand the construction and operation thereof.
Referring to the drawing: Figure 1 is al .plan view of a detached port-ion of@ loom at the magazine end, in this'instancefithe right hand end, andof-my improvements applled thereto. The magazine is not shown. Fig.
2 is a section, on line 2, 2, Fig. 1, looking in the direction of arrow a, same figure. Fig. 3v shows the parts shown at the right in Fig. 2 with the cutter in a different position` In the accompanying drawing, 'i `is a portion of a loom sidefor end frame, 2 is the breast beam, and 3 a plate mounted on the upper side of the breast beam atthe end of a shuttle, and 8 a thereof, and having a stand 4, shown in section, attached thereto, as a ipport for lthe magazine, not shown. p

All of the above mentioned parts may be of the usual and well known construction.
I will now describe my improvements in filling thread cutting mechanism. v
The breast lbeam 2 has mounted thereon, in this instance an angle or corner late 17,
see Fig. 2, the downwardly extendm part 17^of which carries a stud 18, on w ich-is looselyrmounted the hub 19 of an up ht lever 19'. The upper arm of the lever 19 gas a stud'19 thereon, to which is pivotally connected one end of a connector 20.v The other end ofthe connector 20 is connected tosome part of the transferring mechanism, n'otshown. The operation of the transferring mechanism on the operation of the filling detecting mechanism moves, through the connector 20, the filling thread cutting mechanism into two positions, one its inoperative position, shown in Fig. 2, other its operative position, shown in Fig. 3.'
A spring actuated 'pin`-21, mounted in lugs 17" on the plate 17, forms a lock to yieldinglyhold the lever 19 in its two positions, the inner beveled end of said pin 21 entering a recess in the outer side of said lever 19.
'When the lever 19 is moved into its operative position, it will extend into the path of a longitudinally moving rod 22, which in this linstance lis loosely mounted to have a' reciprocating movement in bearings 23 on a stand 23 secured upon the underside of the lay beam 5. y
A. helically coiled expansion spring 24 in this instance encircle-s the rod 22, and bears at one end against a collar 27 fast on said rod, and at its other end againsta bearing 23 on the stand '23. The spring 24 acts to move the rod 22 forward or toward the and the Y y f-'f-.ferring mechanism to ca use them to bey v moved into engagement with each other ou yio breastbeam 2, as shown in Fig. 2. The rear end of the rod 22 is in this instance pivotally connected'with the` lower end of a lever 25, which in this instance has its hub 25 pivotally mounted on a stud 26 on a stand 27 secured to the rear side of the'lay beam 5, near the -end thereof, see Fig. 1. The upper end of the ylever 25 ,is in this instance made recessed or forked shaped, to receive the cutting blade 28, which is-secured in position in this instance by rivets 29. The cutting blade 28 preferably extends between two dents of the reed `11, near the end thereof, see Fig. 1. The temple 12 has in this instance fast thereon at its outer end, a plate 30, preferablymade of steel andhaving a grooved or "recessed end, see Fig. 1, forming a pair of jaws to receive the cutting blade 28, as 'shown in Fig. 3, and cut the filling thread 16, which extends between the jaws 31 and lthe cutting blade 28, as the lay beats up.

They are of simple construction and operation, `and maybe readily applied to weft replenishing looms having a magazine ofany ordinary and wellknown construetion. The cutting mechanism 'is brought into operation on the indication ofa change of filling, through the operation of the transferring mechanism.
' It`will be understood that the details of construction of my improvements may be varied if desiredg IfIaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure' by Iletters Patent is:
l. In a filling thread cutter for looms, a
'cutter blade on the' lay and a pair of jaws, on a stationary Apart of the loom, means for holding said cut-ter blade and said jaws out of engagement with each other during the normal operation of the loom, and means including connections to the filling transthe forward beat of the lay, when a change of filling takes place, to sever the thread of the spent bobbin, and also the thread of the transferred bobbin.
, 2. In a filling thread'cutter for looms, a pair of jaws located in front of the reed, a cutter' blade 4adjustably mounted on the lay back of the reed, and means for moving said cutter blade and said jaws out of engagement with each other, during the normal operation of the loom, and means including connections to the filling transferring mechansm to move said cutter blade between said jaws on the forward beat of the lay for two consecutive picks, when a' changeI of lling takes place.
3. In a filling thread cutter for looms, a cutter blade situated on the lay and back of the reed line, and a pair of jaws, and means to holdfsaid cutter blade out of engagement with said jaws during the normal `operation of the loom, and means including connections to the filling transferring mechanism to cause said blade to enter saidD jaws on vthe forward beat of the lay for two consecutive picks when ai change of filling takes place.
4. In a filling thread cutter for looms, the combination with thev lay, and a` movable cutter-blade carried thereon and adapted to extend through the reed, of jaws on a stationary part of the loom,l adapted to receive said cutter-blade, the breast beam, 'and a pivoted lever thereon, said lever adapted to be moved into the path of a rod connected with the cutter-blade, to cause the movement of' the cutter-blade on the forward movement of the lay.
5. In a filling thread cutter for looms, the
extend through the reed,lanvd jaws mounted' upon a stationary part of the loom, and adapted to receive Said cutter-blade, of the breast-beam, a pivoted lever thereon, said lever adapted to be moved into the path of arod connected with the cutter-blade, to cause the movement of the cutter-blade, and a locking device for yieldingly-holding said lever.
6. In' a filling thread cutting mechanism for automatic filling replenishing looms, two sets of cutting surfaces, one situated on and movable with the lay, and the other situated on a stationary art of the loom, saidcutting surfaces normal y separated and out of contact with each other, and mechanism, including connections to the lilling transferring mechanism, to cause said cutting surfaces to coperate with each other,`to sever the ends of the fillingon the spent bobbin, and on the fresh bobbin, at each replenishment of filling.
