Be it known that I, STEWART A. MINER, subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Camrose, Alberta, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in N on-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention appertains to bottles, jugs or like necked receptacles for containing liquid, the purpose being to prevent the reuse of the bottle after the same has been emptied, thereby protecting the party placing upon the market a certain brand of goods, as also insuring the con-' sumer obtaining the genuine article, or goods desired. 7

While the invention may be adapted to dilferent forms and conditions by changes in the structure and minor details without departing from the spirit or essential features thereof, still the preferred embodiment is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:

The invention is shown applied to a bottle, although it is to be understood that it may be readily adapted to a jug, or other receptacle having a neck.
In carrying out my invention I provide a bottle 1 having the usual neck portion. 2, which is flared as at 3 to form a chamber 3*. Within the bottle neck 2 are positioned in spaced relation two partitions, 4 and 8, partition 4 being located at the base of the neck 2 or at the juncture of the same with the body 1, while the partition 8 is preferably in the form of a stopper which isplaced in the upper end of the-neck 2. The partitions 4 and 8 have central vertical bores 4 and 8 and also ducts 4 and 8 preferably four in number, in each of the partitions, said ducts beginning at the bottom outer edges of the partitions and extending upwardly and inwardly terminating at the upper portions of the bores 4 and 8 The partitions 4 and 8 are each provided with stems 6 and 7 respectively which are slidably mounted in the central bores 4 and 8 the same being provided upon their inner adjacent extremities with flanges 5 and 7 respectively, the former providing a valve for the stem 6 which rests upon a slightly beveled face 4 formed upon the partition 4. The stem 6 of the valve 5 fits in the bore 4* and is adaptedto slide therein. The valve 5 has 7 its circular edge. 5 extended downwardly and tapered thereby conforming to the valve seat. The valve stem 6 is made hollow and has a weight 6 therein, said weight being secured from displacement by a plug 6 placed in the upper end of same, and a seat ferential grooves 6 and 7 b are made in the outer sides of the stems 6 and 7, said grooves being in such a position as to register with the upper openings of the ducts 4 and 8 and to extend above the upper faces of the partitions 4 and 8 when the bottle is tilted in the act of pouring off the liquid contents thereof. The thickened portion 4 of the partition 4 serves as a guide for the valve stem 6. The stopper or upper partition 8 is secured in the neck of the bottle in any suitable way, preferably by the employment of a catch 9 as is disclosed in the drawings. It is to be understood that the partition 4 may be formed integral with the neck of the bottle as is shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The stem 7 is such a length that when the flanged portion 7 is resting upon the valve or flange 5, the upper end of the stem 7 is flush with the top of the stopper or partition 8 and the bottle may be sealed in any substantial way.
When the bottle or other receptacle is in an upright position the valve 5 is seated upon the partition 4 and the flange 7 of the stem 7 rests upon the valve or flange 5, thereby preventing the introduction of liquid into the bottle or other receptacle. When it is desired to empty the contents or a part of the contents of the bottle the same is tilted, whereupon the valve 5 is unseated and assumes, together with the stem 7, the position shown in Fig. 2 which discloses the stems 6 and 7 as being moved upwardly and being prevented from displacement within the partitions 4 and 8 through the medium of the flanges 5 and 7 When in this inverted position the liquid will pass outwardly from the body 1 of the bottle through the ducts 4:", past the groove 6 into the chamber 3 of the neck 2, thence through the ducts 8 formed through the upper partition 8 whence the liquid will be free to leave the bottle by passing within the circumferential groove 7 It will be readily seen from the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, that I have provided a bottle of the character specified which while thoroughly eflicient, consists of few I parts which are not likely to get out of order and which may be cheaply and easily manufactured. It will also be noted that the two partitions 4. and 8 are similarly formed and that the operative parts connected thereto are of similar formation and operation thereby effecting a closure which may comprise any number of cooperating or independent partitions and stems or may be pro vided with but one as desired, however, the preferred arrangement in which two are employed is herein described and illustrated.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

In a bottle or receptacle of the type set forth, provided with a neck, a partition arranged within said neck and provided with a central opening, and other openings at the sides of the central opening and up- 2. A non-refillable bottle comprising a body portion, a neck carried by said body portion and a plurality of partitions each having a central opening and other openings at the sides of the central opening and upwardly and inwardly inclined to terminate at their upper ends with each of said central openings, stems loosely mounted within the central openings in said partitions, said stems having circumferential grooves formed in the sides thereof adjacent their upper ends registered at times with all of the openings in said partitions, and flanges formed on said stems for preventing the displacement of the same and also for the purpose of seal ing the openings formed in said partitions.
