JAMES n. CRABTREE, or enann'r'r, oKLAHoMA.
GUN.
Specification of Iietters Patent." l .Pate'nted Nov, 2, 1909, Application filed September 17, 1908. v Serial No. 453,474. I
To all who/m 'it may concern: l
Be it known that I, J AMES R. CRABTREE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Garrett, in the county of Cimarron, State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guns; and I do hereby declare thev following to be a full, clean-and exact description of the lnventio'n,
such as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to 'make and use the 1 The invention relates toa gun and more particularly to the ciass of jdouble-barrel v guns having la single trigger.
The primary 'obJect of the invention isithe provision of a gun having a guard plate mounted in the stock thereof which .plate .has pivotally connected thereto a single trigger and -means such as plates formed on the shoulderof the trigger to engage the sear lugs of two hammers whereby the same can be operated individually or both in one operation, said plates forming stops to limit the outward movement of the triggers when in a cocked position. v
Another object of the invention is the provision of a gun having double hammers .and a single trigger adapted to actuate the` same, the construction of the said trigger being simple, efficient in its operation and inexpensive in its manufacture.
With these and other objects in view the invention for'example consists in the construction, combination and arrangementl of partsas will be hereinafter more fully de'- scribedfand as illustrated'in the accom anying drawings 'which disclose the pre erred form of embodiment of the invention. However, it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be made such as come properly within the scope of the claims hereunto appended without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the. drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a double barrel gun and its longitudinal section of the same.
stock, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the invention.'A Fig. 3-is a Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the trigger.' Fig. 5 is a fragmentary transverse sectionalv view of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters 'indicate corresponding parts throughout the several.
views in the drawings.
l ln thedrawings, the numeral 5 designates A Amitthe cooking of the remainin the hammers of the double barrel gun 6 and the same being provided with the usual tumblers 7 having notches 8 for the points l,of the sears 9 eachof which has an inwardly projecting lug 10 extending to the center of the stoclr above the guard plate llfhaving rising therefroman enlargement l2 bifurcated as at 13 to form spaced parallel ears 14 between which is pivotally mounted aI single trigger 15 the same having an enlarged portion 16 with a depending finger piece 17 movable throu h an. elongated opening 18 in said guard p ate. This elongated opening 18 extends longitudinally at a central point of the said guard plate.
On opposite sides of the enlarged portion-` when t-he hammers' are cocked or in a set position for firing the gun, whereby the said trigger 15 islimited in its outward movement. The guard plate 11 is secured to the stock of the gun in any suitable manner however preferably by asecuring bolt .23 passing through an o ening in the enlargement l2 0f said guar plate to connect the. same to the stock of the gun.
If it is-desired to use but one barrei either one' of the hammers is left uncooked to perhamrner which will be actuated by the said trigger..
Furthermore, the stop plates 19 can be de.
tached from lthe enlarged Vportion of the trigger loto permit new ones tobe replacedin event the old ones have become worn. The importance of having thesaid Aplates 19, removable at the will of a person is that thel said plates can be detached so as to substitute in theirj stead other lplates' of ,in- 'creased or decreased depth or thicknessesto enable the said trigger to be used with sears of varying height 'within the gun, whereby a proper iiringaction thereof will be e'eoted VAioe and also permit the desired swinging movement of said trigger.
`What is claimed iS- 1. lThe combination with a gun'trigger of ron'lovable mcans connocid to .said trigger. to uvcolnlnodutc soars of rali-ying' hiight sind to regulate the movement, of said triggor.
S2. The Coi'nbiimtion with n gun hzuingr hammers, soar provided with inwnrdiv projecting lugs, orf n guard pinto, onlmrgonient rising tlmrofrox'n and having' spaced ears, a trigger protnlly connectvd to Suid ears, and wcaring plait@ removably connected to 0ppostc sides ot' said trigger to accommodate varying height. of sears and serving to regulate the movcnlcnt of the trigger and also forming cfun surfaces to operate the said sears.
n gun having :i guard piatte,
in triggur pivoter] thereto, und removable wearing pluto mounted :it opposite sides of the trigger and scrying as stops to limit the outward lnovomcnt of sind trigger when the immmers are in cocked niozlillon.
1n testimony whereof, l atlix my slgnnturc, in prt-sone@ of two witnesses.
JAMES R. CRABTREIQ.
Witnesses E. R. Wumm, ALLEN WIKOFF.
