. V cnsrrnon.
To all whom it may concern: I i
Be it known that I, LUKEJT. PoLLARn, a
I citizen of the United States of America, re-
siding at Pittsburg -in the county of Alle gheny and State of Pennsylvania, have -i'n-j vented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuspidors, of which'the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. v
This invention relates-to cuspidors, and the object of the invention isto provide .a
sanitary and easily cleaned cuspidor, thereby and unhealthy odors that are liable tobe liberated by mateliminating disagreeable ter contained within a cuspid0r.
My invention aims to provide a novel cuspidor support, that will prevent a 'cuspidor from being accidentallytilted or upset. In connection with thecuspidor, I utilize a spraying device for cleansing the mouth or funnel of the cuspidor, also forwashin'g matter deposited in the cuspidor. To this end, I provide a support for a cuspidor 113V", ing the body thereof provided with an opening adapted to be closed by a shutter or slide door. \Vithin the cuspidor is located a screen for-preventing solid'matte'r from entering a drain pipe provided for removing liquid matter from 'the bottom of the cuspidor. vided with a circular spraying ed to maintain the exposed evice adapt-- screen into the drain pipe.
The invention will be hereinafter consid- I ered in detail, and reference will now be had to the drawing forming a plication wherein there is i terred embodiment of my invention, but it is to be understood that the structural elements thereof can be varied or changed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings :-F igure 1. is an eleva-.
the funnel-shaped moi; 1h 4 thereof above the One side of the support as zit 2 water supp y pipe arranged beneath said support. is detachable whereby easy access caxrb'had The mouth of the cusgidor is pro portion ofthe cuspidor in a sanitary condition-and at the same time wash certain matterthrough the art. of this 'ap-' ilustrated a pre Specification of Letters latentf Patenfied Oct, 319, 1909, Application filed April 29, 1909. seri l in, 492,971."
'to the inverted cone-: shaped bdttom- 5 of the cuspidor, which is provided with a: central down .pipe-6"adapted to connect with a drain pipe 7 beneath the fioor '11."- The inverted cone-shaped bottom 5 oftlie cuspidor is provided with guideflangesS for a slide door 9, tliis, door beingopen-Whereby a horizontal screenorfsi'eve- 10 ca' be removed-from the bottom'of the,'cuspidor}and cleaned; T l1 desi" ates awatei'supply pipe beneath the floor Land this pipe is connected by a branch pipe 121130 a'circul ar tubular spray; inghe'ad l3 mounted'in the funnel-shaped month 4 013 the cuspidor. adjacent to the upper edges thereof, said head being provided with a 5 plurality: of. circumferentiallyarrangedopeningsl 14. for spraying water downvvardly'nponth'esides oft-he funnelorder toshieldthe head 13 ran annulus or vshaped mouth 4. i'lhejbranch pipe 12 is, provided Witha'valve l5,for controlling the. admission of Water to the cuspidor, and in r rin 16 is mounted upon the upper edges of the funnel-shaped mouth 4:. j
It is apparent that thematter deposited in 'the cuspidorwill immediately be washed-- upon the screen 10 anda portion of the matter washed through the screen into the drain pipe 7, the screen retaining such particles that would tend to clog and interrupt the flow of water through the drain ipe 7 In-.
spraying the funnel-shaped moiit 4:, spittle and other matter are prevented from adhering to the sidesof th'e cuspidor.
The 'cusp dor is designed for hotels, sitloons, depots and such places Where cuspidors are continuously'used and can be read ily made a fixtureiin the' building. l
Having now described my I claim as new, is
water supply pipe arranged beneathisa'id floor, of a support mounted upon said floor, a-cuspidor mounted in said support, and
invention what 9'5 '1. The combinationvwlth a floor, a drain" pipe arranged beneath said floor, and a" having an inverted cone-shaped bottom con-' nccting with said drain pipe, a' slide. door arranged in the bottom of said c'uspidor, said cusp dor ha ving a funnel-shaped mouth, and a spraying head mounted in the funnel shaped mouth of said cuspidor and adapted to connect with said water sup sly pipe.
2. The combination with a plpe urran ed beneath said floor, and a cor, a drain.
floor, of a support mounted upon said floor, 1 ply pi e, and an annulus or ring mounted a cuspidor mounted in said support, and having an inverted cone-shaped bottom conneoting with said drain pipe, a slide door arranged in the bottom of said cuspidor, a
horizontal screen mounted in the bottom of 0 and adapted to connect with said water sup- I I upon t e up or edges of the funnel-shaped mouth ofsaiid ouspidor for protecting said spraying head.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of twowitnesses. 1 LUKE T. POLLARD.
