SANITARY DRINKING-FOUNTAIN.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patgnted N V, 30 1920 Application filed May 24, 1920. Serial No. 383,854.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, JOHN A. BENSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lawrence, in the county of Douglas and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Sanitary Drinking-Fountain, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a. drinking fountain, and one object of the invention is to provide such a fountain wherein it will be impossible for a person to place the lips directly about the nozzle--an obviously unsanitary and unde sirable procedure. 1
Another object of the invention is to provide novel means for caring for the surplus or drain Water.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the arrangement and combination of-parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from.
the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, the device is disclosed in a single figure in the nature of a side elevation, parts appearing in section.
In carrying out the invention there is provided a delivery pipe 1 provided at its upper end with a funnel 2. The delivery pipe 1 has a reduced nozzle 3 located within the funnel 2. The numeral 4 denotes a drain pipe having a funnel 5 disposed. opposite to the funnel 2 of the delivery pipe 1, the lower portion of the funnel 5 carrying a depending lip 6 which is trough-shaped 1n cross section. The pipes 1 and 1 are bowed in opposite directions. The lower ends of the pipes 1 and 4, may be connected, in-
tegrally or otherwise, as indicated at 7 The device hereinbefore described is adapted to be used in a variety of ways and with structures of widely different sorts. By way of explanation, however, the delivery pipe 1 is shown extended, as at 8, through the bottom of a basin 9 supported charged, through the end portion 11 of the pipe 4:, into the basin 9, the water leaving the basin 9 by way of the outlet 12. A per son desiring a drink secures the same from the stream which. flows between the funnels 2 and 5. The funnel 5 serves to prevent the water from spattering about as it leaves the nozzle 8. The major portion ofthe water proceeding from the nozzle 3 will be dis charged directly into the upper end of the drain pipe i at the smaller end of the funnel 5, but if any of the water should flow backwa-rdly along the lower portion of the funnel, that portion of the water will be received. by the lip 6 and be directed downwardly.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A drinking fountain comprising delivery and drain oipes terminating in oppositely disposed funnels, the delivery pipe having a nozzle located within the funnel of the delivery pipe and discharging into the funnel of the drain pipe.
2. A drinking fountain comprising oppositely bowed delivery and drain pipes provided at their upper ends with oppositely disposed funnels, the lower ends of the delivery and drain pipes being connected, the lower end of the drain pipe being spaced above the lower end of the delivery pipe.
3. A drinking fountain comprislng delivery and drain pipes terminating in oppositely disposed funnels, the delivery pipe having a reduced nozzle located within the funnel of the delivery pipe and discharging into the funnel of the drain pipe, the funnel of the drain pipe being provided with a depending lip.
4. A drinking fountain comprising delivery and drain pipes terminating in oppositely disposed funnels, the delivery pipe having a reduced nozzle located withln the funnel of the delivery pipe and discharging into the funnel of the drain pipe, the funnel of the di'ainpipe being supplied with a demyown, I haveihei'eto afiixed-my signature pending lip, the delivery and drain pipes in the presence of two witnesses. being bowed in opposite directions and be- 1 T 1 T ing connected, the lower end of the drain JOHA BBB 5 pipe being spaced above'thelewerendnfthe e Witnesses:
delivery pipe. v KAizLlxnooz,
In testimony that I claim the'foregoing as ETHYL'MAYER.
