To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DOLLY S. MAsDnN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county'of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade and Curtain Hangers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention consists in what is hereinafter particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims of this specification, its object being to rovide simple, economical and efficient sha e and curtain hangers designed to permit of rods and shades or curtains suspended therefrom being swung out from normal position so that ready access may be had to window-sash for cleaning same or otherwise without taking down of said shades or curtains-and said hangers also facilitate the placing or removal of the shades 'or curtains, the attaching bracket and shade or curtain suspending rod of each hanger being non-separable.

Figure 1 of the drawings represents a partly sectional side elevation of shade or curtain hanger means in accordance with my invention applied in one way to a window-- casing; Fig. 2, a plan view of the same partly in horizontal section applied in another Way to said casing, the section being indicated by line 2-2 in Fig; 1; Fig. 3 a plan view of a bracket embodied in said means, and Fig. 4, an elevation of said bracket partly in section on the plane indicated by line 4:4: in Fig. 1.

Referring by letter to the drawings, A indicates a one-piece sheet-metal bracket provided with strengthening ribs 6, and with countersinks c in terminals of the ribs, these countersinks being for fastening nails or screws. The central portion of the bracket is bent and folded as shown at d, to form a preferably angular horizontal recess into which opposing tapered pivot studs e-of said bracket extend in a vertical direction. The ribs and counter-sinks of the bracket are obtained by suitable die-swaging of its blank, said ribs being both vertical and horizontal of the bracket when the folds d are made to form the recess aforesaid. The folding is done upon the angular shank f of an arm B,

and said shank is provided with an apertureengaged by the studs 0 of-the bracket, whereby a non-separable pivotal connection is had of said arm and bracket. The arm B, if of sufiicient length may constitute the shade or curtain rod or be variously made for engagement with or attachment to an end of such a rod, and it is herein shown as being of preferably cylindrical form in one end of a tubular section C of an extensible rod, said rod section being cri mped in an annular groove g of said arm. The other end of the rod in any form of same is provided with an eye for the engagement of a hook D, the shank of which hook is driven in a window casing to which the bracket aforesaid is also fastened, and as herein shown the bracket and hook may be arranged to face each other or to both extend in the same direction from said casing.

By springing the rod, its eye-end It may be readily disengaged from the hook I), and said rod with a shade or curtain suspended therefrom readily swung out from normal position to permit of ready access to the sash of the adjacent window, as well as the ready placing or removal of said shade or curtain with reference to the aforesaid rod.

The peculiar construction of the bracket A herein shown is such as to'be sufliciently still to prevent spreading of its horizontal portions when the rod and shade or curtain therewith are swung out of normal position.

I claim:

1. A bracket having a horizontally recessed portion provided with opposite inwardly extending pivot studs, and a shade or curtain rod having one terminal thereof provided with an aperture with which said studs are engaged, the other terminal of the rod being an eye for engagement with a supporting hook.

2. A sheet-metal bracket having a portion thereof bent and folded to form a horizontal recess and provided with vertically disposed of the rod is engageable.

3.
