ROBERT W. McMICI-IAEL, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
PUZZLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT I/V. Mc-
'l\IIonAnn, a citizen of the United States,
various points between its ends and a game piece to roll on the board and runway and traverse the latter and pass under such wickets until it reaches the goal as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :F igure 1 is a plan of a game apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same.
In accordance with my invention, I provide a game board which may be of any suitable size and shape, may be made of any suitable construction and is provided with a side flange or wall 2 which extends around its side edges and projects above its plane upper surface. On the said upper surface of the board and in relief thereon is a figure 3 evolute in form and which is preferably designed to represent a coiled serpent. This figure has its upper surface plane and totally unprovided with side flanges or any other means for keeping the rolling object thereon. At the outerend of the runway, which is here shown as the head of a serpent, is a forked entrance way 4 which is here shown as the. tongue of the serpent, the said fork or. entrance way serving to guide a marble, ball or other spherical or suitably shaped game piece 5 from the sur- Specification of Letters Patent.

face of the board on to the outer end of the runway by gravity when. the board is properly manipulated and inclined. At the inner end of the figure or runway is a goal 6 which is here shown as a recess or depression adapted for the reception of the rolling or movable game piece 5 after the latter has been caused to successfully traverse the evolute figure or runway from its outer end to its inner end. At suitable points between the ends of the raised figure or runway and at suitable distances apart are wickets 7 under which the movable game piece 5 passes as the said game piece traverses the length of the raised runway or figure.
It will be understood from the foregoing and by an inspection of the drawings that it requires care and skill to cause the moving game piece to successfully traverse the plane surfaced evolute runway or figure from end to end and that the game apparatus or puzzle will afford a great. deal of entertainment and amusement to those using the same.
What is claimed is 1'. A game board having a plane evolute runway in relief on its upper surface, a goal recess at the inner end of said evolute runway and wickets extending over said runway at various points between its ends.
2. A game apparatus comprising a board having side flanges, a plane evolute runway in relief on its upper surface, a goal recess at the inner end of said evolute runway and wickets extending over said runway at various points between its ends, and a game piece to traverse said runway and pass under said wickets.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT W. MoMICHAEL.
