Application led August 18, 190B, Serial No. 449,175. Renewed June 1, 190B.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Oct. 12, 1909.
Serial No. 499,507.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, DAvin B. OKELLY, a l citizen ofthe United States, residing at Slol comb, in the county of Geneva and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Iinprovements in Air-Cushion Seats, of which the following is a s ecification.
This invention re ates to air cushion seats, l and one ofthe princi al objects of the saine is i to provide an iniata le air cushion to be used as a toilet seat, the purpose being to produce a sanitary device to prevent the transmission of contagious diseasesiand to insure cleanliness.
Another object of the invention is to provide a toilet seat cushion in which the parts are separable to render them easy to clean, and in which the air tube ma be quickl detachedor connected to comp ete the cus ion.
These and other objects ma be attained by means ofA the construction il ustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure is a top plan view of an air cushtion, Fig. Qlis a bottom plan view of the same, Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the -line 3 3 of l F' V1, Fi 4 is a top plan view of the air tu detac ed from the seat.
Referrin to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates t e foundation piece or seat which Amay be made of leather, canvas or other suitable material. This piece is preferably circular in plan, and is provided with a central said openin being notched, as atV 3, and the points 4, a jacent to the notches being bent downwardly, as shown in Fig. 3. Secured to the foundation piece 1 are two rows f lacing studs 5, arranged in circular formas an inner and an outer series, the hook portion of said studs projecting from the bottom of said foundation piece.' A slit 6 is formed in the edge of the foundation piece, and buttons 7 are secured upon one side of said slit, while button' holes 8 are rovided on the o posits he purpose of t 1s arrangement of buttonsland button holes is to provide means for preventing the outer edge of the foundation piece from' turning upward l when the device is in use. A stay piece 9 is secured at the base of the slit G to .prevent tearing of the foundation piece at this point. The air tube l() is ol circular .forni and is 0ll a size to occupy the space hcl wcen the two rows of lacing hooks Fi. the air tuheis an iniiatiug pipe 11, which may he provided with a` chc k valve l?, and a mouth-piece 13. The air tube l0 is detachably secured in place by means of u lacing 1.4, which is crossed and connected to the lacing hooks and ticd as al 15 to pcrinil said air tube to be removed for cleaning the parts, when found necessary.
From theforegoing it will be obvious that an air cushion seat made in accordance with niy y:nvention will be found very desirable Vfor use in hotels, on steanicrs, or in toilets accessible to the public, as a sanitary appliance.
I claim:
l. An air cushion seat comprising a foundationpiece having two rows of lacing hooks connected thereto in the forni of spaced circles, and an` inflatable air tube secured between said rows ofdacing hooks by means of a lacing connected to the hooks and crossed over the air tube.
2. An air cushion seat com rising a foundation piece having two annular rows of lacing hooks secured thereto and provided with slit in the edge thereof, closed by buttons and button holes, and an air cushion having an ifiating pipe provided with a mouth-piece, said tube being secured to the foundation piece by a lacing engaged by said lacing hooks.
3. An air cushion seat com rising a foundation piece having a centra openin pron vided with a notched edge and ointe tabs, and anV air tube secured to sai foundation piece by lacing hooks and lacing.
In testimon whereof I aflix my signature in presence o two witnesses.
DAVID B. OKELLY.
