FRANK R. HENRY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO MAJESTIC MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION.
TOWEL-RACK FOR RANGES AND STOVES.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK R. HENRY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in rTowel-Racks for Ranges and Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming' part of this specification.
My invention relates to a towel rack adapted to be suspended above a range or stove by attachment to an overhanging member. such as a warming closet or shelf, and which includes a supporting rod shiftably mounted in order that it may be placed beneath the overhanging support when not in use and be moved to a forward position in front of the support when it is to be placed in service.
Figure I is a perspective view of a range with my towel rack applied thereto. Fig. II is in part an elevation and in part a section of members of my towel rack and its support. F ig. III is an inside perspective View of one of the brackets and an end of the rod of the rack. F IV is a perspective view of a modification.
In the accompanying' drawings 1 designates a range and 2 a warming closet surmounting said range.
3 designates the hanger brackets of my towel rack which are secured to the end walls of the warming closet 2. These hanger brackets are provided with arched or curved pockets or runways 4 that extend longitudinally of and are open at the inner sides of the brackets, each bracket having a closed outer wall which serves to prevent longitudinal movement of a rod seated in the runways, as will hereinafter appear. At the top of each bracket an ear 5 provided with a bolt hole 6 that is adapted to receive a securing bolt 7 which is inserted through the end wall of the warming closet at the end of said closet at which the bracket is located. At the rear side of each hanger bracket is a horizontal lug S that occupies a position beneath the warming closet, as seen in Fig. III, when the bracket is secured to the warming closet by the bolt 7.
9 is a hanger rod the ends of which are loosely mounted in the pockets 4 in the two hanger brackets 3.
Then my rack is in service as a support Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 9, 1909.
Patented Oct. 12, 1909.
Serial No. 489,007.
for a towel, or other article to be dried, the hanger rod 9 is moved to the forward position, illustrated in Fig. I, so that it rests in the pockets in the hanger brackets at their front ends, at which time the hanger rod is entirely in front of the warming closet to permit the ascent of vapor from the damp towel without such ascent of the vapor being interfered with by the warming closet. IVhen the rack is not in use, the hanger rod is shifted rearwardly to a position beneath the warming closet, as indicated in Fig. III, so that it will not be an obstruction over the range and in front of the warming closet.
In Fig. IV I have shown a modification of my towel rack wherein 3 designates one of the brackets of the rack provided with. a curved slot t that receives the hanger rod 9 having` heads l0 at its ends which serve to retain the hanger rod in the brackets, it being understood that there is a second bracket corresponding to that illustrated and located opposite to it to receive the hanger rod. In this modification, the brackets correspond to the brackets previously described, eXcept for the fact that the slots et are provided in lieu of the pockets 4.
lVhile I have shown and described in v towel rack as applied to the warming closet of a range, it is obvious that it might be applied to an overhanging shelf above a range or stove and have the same utility as when applied to a warming closet.
I claim zl. The combination with a stove or range having an overhanging support, of a towel rack fixed to said support and comprising` a pair of brackets containing' arched or curved runways, and having closed outer walls, with a rod shiftable in said runways.
2. The combination with a stove or range having an overhanging support, of a towel rack iXed to said support and comprising a pair of brackets containing arched or curved runways and having upper portions provided at their rear sides with lugs adapted to seat beneath said support and with bolt holes above said lugs, securing bolts extending through the bolt holes, and a rod shiftable in the runways in said brackets.
FRANK R. HENRY. In the presence of- WM. H. SCOTT, E. B. LINN.
