M. NELSON.
MIRROR ATTAGHMENT FOR WINDOWS.
' APPLICATION FILED JUNE 1, 1909. 935,922.

INVENTOR ac/s wo/y ATTORNEYS MADS NELSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MIRROR ATTACHMENT FOR WINDOWS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Got. 5, 1909.
Application filed June 1, 1909. Serial No. 499,484.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mans NELsoN, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mirror Attachments for Windows, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to mirror attachments for windows; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may be conveniently attached to a window frame and supported at a predetcrmined distance outside thereof, and the construction and arrangement of which is such that a person sit-ting within the window or in room or apartment may see what is go ing on in the street on the opposite sides of or parallel with the window and also beneath the window.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which;
Figure l is a perspective view of a part of a window frame provided with my improved mirror attachment, part of the construction being in section, and ;Fig. 2 a plan view thereof.
In the drawing forming part of this specification, I have shown at a a part of a wall of a building together with a part of a window frame comprising the side portion 6 thereof and bottom portion 6 and the bottom portion 6 of the window frame rests on the usual window sill a which may consist of stone if the walls of the house are composed of brick or stone, and which may consist of wood if the house is a frame house.
My improved mirror attachment for windows is designated as a whole by the reference character 0, and comprises a bottom bar 0 adapted to rest on the window sill a and to project a predetermined distance therefrom, and said bar 0 is provided at its inner end with a foot member 0 which, in practice, is secured to the bottom 6 of the window frame by a screw 0*. I also provide a clamp (Z comprising a hook'member (Z adapted to engage the bottom of the sill a and provided at its upper end with a horizontal arm (Z having an upwardly directed finger d, and said bar 0 is provided with spaced holes 0 through one of which the finger (i passes, and passed through another of said holes is a screw (l which also passes through the arm (Z of the clamp device (Z, and by turning said screw the clamp device (Z will be drawn upwardly and caused to engage the sill a and securely hold the mirror attachment in position. The bar 0 is also provided with an upright member 6 having a foot 0 through which is passed a bolt, screw or similar de vice e which is also passed through one of the holes 0 in the bar 0 and by means of which the upright member 6 is rigidly connected with said bar, and by means of this construction the upright member 6 may be adjusted toward and from the window as will be readily understood. The upright member 6 is also provided with spaced holes 0 and secured thereto is a V-shaped support f, the arms f of which project at an angle of 90 to each other and are connected by a central member f through which is passed a bolt, screw or similar device f which may be passed through any of the holes a in the upright member 6, and by means of which the V-shaped support f may be adjusted vertically on said upright member.
Connected with the outer and inner end portions of the arms f of the \l-shaped support f are brackets g in which are pivoted mirrors or mirror frames 9 provided at one or both ends with set screws 9 The arms f of the V-shaped support f are at an angle of about 45 to the wall of the building, or to the window frame and the mirrors or mirror frames 9' are supported at a similar angle and may be turned into any desired horizontal position, and by means of this construction a person sitting within the window may see in the mirrors anything that is going on in the street below the window and parallel with the wall of the building in either direction.
The outer ends of the arms f of the V- shaped support f are provided with upright members it in which is pivoted a mirror 712 one of the trunnions of which is provided with a set screw 7L3 and the mirror if is parallel with the window frame or with the wall of the building and may be adjusted into any desired position so as to reflect what is going on beneath the window in such manner as to enable a person sitting within the window to clearly see anything that transpires beneath the window.
Pivoted to the opposite sides of the upright members it in the form of construction shown, and as indicated at h are braces 2' composed of separate parts made longitudinally adjustable at 2' and the inner ends of said braces are pivoted to brackets i secured to the sides Z) of the window frame, and by means of this construction the entire mirror attachment 0 may be adjusted toward and from the window frame as will be readily understood.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A mirror attachment for windows comprising a bottom member adapted to be connected with the bottomof the window frame, an upright member connected with said bottom member, a horizontal V-shaped support connected with said upright member, and mirrors connected with the sides of said support, the arms of said V-shaped support being also provided at their outer ends with upright members, and a supplemental mir ror pivoted therein.
2. A mirror attachment for windows comprising a bottom member adapted to be connected with the bottom of the window frame, an upright member connected with said bottom member, a horizontal V-shaped support connected with said upright member, and mirrors connected with the sides of said support, the arms of said V-shaped support being also provided at their outer ends with upright members, and a supplemental mirror pivoted therein, and side braces pivoted to said upright members and to the sides of the window frame.
3. A mirror attachment for window frames comprising a bottom member adapted to be connected with the bottom of the window frame centrally thereof, an upright member connected with said bottom member and adjustable toward and from the window frame, a V-shaped support connected with said upright member and vertically adjustable thereon, mirrors connected with the sides of the V-shaped support and rotatably adjustable, the sides of said Vshaped sup- 7 port being also provided at their outer ends with upright members, and a supplemental mirror pivoted in said upright members parallel with the window frame and adapted to be rotatably adjusted.
at. A mirror attachment for window frames comprising a bottom member adapted to be connected with the bottom of the window frame centrally thereof, an upright member connected with said bottom member and adjustable toward and from the window frame, a V-shaped support connected with said upright member and vertically adjust able thereon, mirrors connected with the sides of the V-shaped support and rotatably adjustable, the sides of said V-shaped support being also provided at their outer ends with upright members, and a supplemental mirror pivoted in said upright members parallel with the window frame and adapted to be rotatably adjusted, and side braces pivoted to said upright members and adapted to be pivoted to the sides of the window frame and the length of which are longitudinally adjustable.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 29th day of May 1909.
