ADJUSTABLE RBPLBGTING SCREEN.
No. 569,503. Patented Oct. 13, 1896.

j l W UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IEARL KEYES,VOF HOT SPRINGS, ARKANSAS.
' ADJUSTABLE REFLECTING-SCREEN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 569,503, dated October 13, 1896.
Application tiled May 9, 1896. Serial No. 590,853. (No model.)
T0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PEARL KEYES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hot Springs, in the county of Garland and State of Arkansas, have invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Reflecting- Screens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to reflecting-screens, the object of the same being to produce such a screen which is portable and adjustable and peculiarly adapted to use by photographers, by which one can operate without a skylight on the ground iioor of the building. It is also adapted to various other uses where it is desired to change the direction of the light entering the room to some particular object in the room or to some part of the room.
The invention consists of a frame in which one or more mirrors or other reflectors are pivotally mounted, the said frame itself being suspended from cords passing over rollers in suitable uprights and carrying balanceweights at their opposite ends.
In the drawings forming part of this specication, Figure l represents a perspective view of my device. Fig. 2 is a section through one of the upright supports.
The frame l of my device may be made up of one or more adjustable panels, each of which swings either Way on double hinges, and in which are pivotally mounted mirrors or other suitable reiiectors 2, which are capable of being moved on their axes and be held in adj usted position. The frame 1, made up of the panel or panels, is suspended from cords 3, passing around pulleys or rollers 4, mounted in bearings in the upper ends of vsuitable supports 5 and carrying balance-weights 6 upon their lower ends. The supports 5 are provided with suitable feet 7, carrying casters 8, by means of which the whole screen may be moved freely and easily. The frame 1 bears against the front side of the upright 5 and is held in contact therewith by means of collars 9 or suitable iianges.
It will be seen from the above description' that I have provided a screen for photographers use that is easily portable, that contains one or more mirrors that may be adjusted to any angle, that may be raised or lowered at will by reason of the peculiar method of supporting the same, and that may also be folded up upon itself for the purpose of creating different vertical angles.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described portable reflectingscreen consisting of a frame made up of one or more panels, reiiectors pivotally mounted in said panel or panels, uprights upon which said frame is supported, guide-rollers in said uprights, cords passing over said rollers and connected at one end to said frame and balance-weights upon the other ends of said cords, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
PEARL KEYES. IVitnesses:
JNO. J. SUMPTER, J. P. MELLARD.
