WINDOW-MIRROR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 323,191, dated July 28, 1885.

To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIEGFRIED L. F. ME- LOHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee,in the county of Milwaukee and State of \rVisconsin, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Mirrors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.-
My invention-to be hereinafter claimed relates to a device for reflecting rays of light, which device is adapted to be stationed outside a window or other convenient place, and thereby Overseers, watchmen, detectives, or persons whose duty or curiosity so directs are enabled, while within the room and at some distance from the window before which the device is placed, to see and note whatever is transpiring or existing on the outside of the room, either up or down the street or other locality at the right or left of the device, which result is secured to the observer without exposing himself to view, and even when seated at a table or desk within the apartment before which the device is located.
This invention may be fully understood by the following description, with a reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a view (from the inside of a room) of my device placed before a partly-opened window. Fig. 2 is a top view of my device located on the bottom of awindoW-frame, and Fig. 3 is aside View of my device located on the bottom of a window-frame.

A A are plane mirrors set rigidly in the frame B. The frame B consists of two outwardly-extending wings affixed rigidly to each other at an angle at their inner ends, which wings are strengthened and made firm in such position by a triangular block inserted in the angle between them and made rigid thereto, which frame is supported and made movable upon the arm 0, and said arm at its outer end is journaled in the triangular block affixed to and a part of frame B, and on which arm said frame, being movable, as stated, is adjustable, being adapted to be held in the position desired by the set-screwD, turning in said triangular block against the arm 0. The inner end of the arm 0 is affixed to the window-frame or other provided support outside and in front of the window within which the observers are stationed.
I preferably use two mirrors, as shown; but if it is desired to take observations of such events as are transpiring on one side only of the window at which this device is located, a single mirror located so as to reflect the rays of light from that side would be sufficient. Thus if it were desired to see what transpires beneath a window in a room in an upper story of a building, in which room the observer is stationed, a single mirror so attached to the window by this device as to reflect the rays of light radiating or reflected from below would secure the result desired.
I preferably so construct the frame-B as to set the mirrors therein at right angles to each other, and so adjust the frame that each mirror will be at an angle of forty-five degrees to the window; but any other angle can be adopted, if desired.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of mirrors A A, set rigidly in the frame B B, the frame B B, consisting of two wings set at an angle to each other and held rigidly together by a triangular block inserted between the parts thereof, the supportingarm O, journaled at the outer end into the triangular block in frame B, and the set-screw D, whereby said frame B, adjustable on arm 0, is held in position, substantially as set forth.
