THOMAS A. MCGUIRE, OF OAKLAND, ILLINOIS.
DRESSING-BOOTH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2'7, 1906.
Application filed October ll 1905. Serial No. 282,835.
To all when it Wtcty concern-.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS A. MCGUIRE, a citizen'of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Coles and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dressing-Booths, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its primary object to provide a dressing-booth which can be readily folded up against the wall when not in use. This has a double advantage of saving valuable floor-space and of enabling the floor to be easily kept in a clean and sanitary condition.
With this object in view the invention consists, essentially, of an inclosing curtain, a floorcovering, and means whereby the curtain and floor covering can be simultaneously folded or extended for use.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and ac companying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the dressing-booth, showing the curtain in a lowered position. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the device as folded against the wall. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the booth. Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the device with the curtain removed.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The numeral 1 designates a standard,
which is secured against the wall in any suitable manner and comprises two upright members 2, having their upper ends connected by spaced horizontal bars 3, the lower bar 3 being provided with a series of hooks 4. The upper framework 5, from which the inclosing curtain 6 is suspended, is formed by bending the ends of a strip of metal around at approximately right angles to form arms 7, which are pivotally connected to the upright members 2. In the drawings --the extremities of the arms 7 are shown as provided with eyes, which connect with screw-eyes fastened in the upright members 2. The lower framework 8 is of a size corresponding to the upper framework 5 and is pivoted to the upright members 2 in a similar manner at a point near the floor. A cross-bar 9 connects the arms of the lower framework, thereby forming a rectangular structure across which the carpet or floor-covering 10 is stretched. In order to secure a simultaneous movement of the upper and lower frameworks, they are connected by members 11, which are of a length equal to the distance between the points up on the upright members 2 where the frameworks are pivoted. A system of ropes is provided for raising and lowering the device and comprises cords 12, connected to the outer portion of the upper framework 5 and passing over pulleys or guide members 13 upon the upper horizontal bar 3 and then down to within easy access of the operator. It will thus be understood that when the upper framework 5 is allowed to swing around so that the arms 7 areinahorizontalposition the lower framework, having a carpet stretched thereover, will rest upon the floor, and the curtain 6 will form an inclosure around said carpet. When the booth is not in use, the curtain and floor-covering can be swung up against the wall, so as to occupy very little floor-space.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In a dressing-booth, the combination of a support, a curtain suspended from said support and forming the inclosing walls of the booth, a floor-covering for said booth, said floor-covering being pivotally connected to the support so as to swing thereagainst, and means for swinging the floor-covering against the support.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a framework pivotally attached to the wall, an inclosing curtain suspended therefrom, a floor-covering pivotally mounted so as to swing up against the wall, and means whereby the framework and the floor-covering can be folded against the wall.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination of an upper framework pivotally connected to the wall, an inclosing curtain suspended therefrom, a lower framework pivotally mounted so as to swing against the wall, a floor-covering stretched across the lower framework, and means whereby the upper and lower frameworks can be folded against the wall.
4. In a device of the character described, the combination of an upper framework pivotally connected to the wall, an inclosing curtain suspended therefrom, a lower framework pivotally mounted so as to swing against the wall, a floor-covering stretched across the lower framework, connecting means between covering pivotally connected to a lower porthe upper framework and the lower framet1on of the standard, and means whereby work to secure a simultaneous movement the two frameworks can be simultaneously thereof, and means whereby the two framefolded against the wall.
5 works can be folded against the wall. In testimony whereof I affix my signature I 5 5. In a device of the character described, in presence of two witnesses. the combination of a standard secured to the THOMAS A. MCGUIRE.
