VETERINARY OBSTETRICA L INSTRUMENT.
- Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed December 13, 1907.
Patented Serial No. 406,336.
To all whom it may concern: 1 Be it known that 1,.Cuamacs amen. a eitizen of the United States, residing at Hawkl l .eye, in the county ot'.Fayette and State of Iowa, have. invented-certain new and useful Improvements in Veterinary ()bstetrieal 1nstruments, of whit-h the following is a. speeifieation. I This invention relates to veterinary obl stet'rical instruments, and more particularly l to that instrument known as a tort-ops. The present invention is an improvement 1 upon the veterinary obsietriral instrument rovered by my Letters Patent .\'o. Milli f f dated June 25. Hull. 'lhe objeets ot' thel present invention being the same as tho e set i forth in the said patent, with the additional ad 'antagesot' simplieitv and durability. I l
In my Patent No. (377.199, June :35, N01,
l employtwo parallel tubes for the purpose.v of guiding the looped wn'e. 'lhese tubes are ma line'throughout their entire length with the handle. exeept the free ends whit-h are flaring and eurred upward. In. actual use. I have obtained better results by forming-f this portion of the instrument with a' siugle tube compressed so as to form two separate guide-ways, and to eurve said tube gradually toward its free end whit-his expanded. eu-rved upward and partially closed. I do not. however, limit myself to the use ot one tube for [may use. either one or two tubes, as maybe. desired, and when one tube is el nplo'yed it may be compressed to form t\\"ot separate guide-ways or it may not. be compressed. all of whieh is leftv to the discretion otthe manutaeturer. For the attainmentof the various objects, l employ eertain (Otlllltllltlliand cooperative parts. the particular eonstruetion o't' whieh and the novel manner of combination and arrangement oi the same will be more fully described and spet-il'ieally pointed'out in the appended elaim.
la the drawingsz-Figure 1 is a perspeetire view illustrating the instrument expanded, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal seetional riew, Fig. 3 i.' a modilieation.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, 1 represents the handle of the instrument having mounted therein a tube 2, whieh is se- 1 eorresponding 'gether with their cured in position by a. screw 3, passing through a sleeve 4.1111011 the handle. Th s Sept. 2s, 190s.
tube is compressed as shown no, so as to form two separate gulde-ways ti, and isgradually curved toward its free end, Wlllt'll' as shown at 7, curved upward is expanded as at 8. and closed wlth the'exceptlou of two.
eate with the gindeqrays (l, or with the tube in eases where the guide-ways are dispensed with. This 'tube is. parts so as to provide means for cleaning split or formed -1n'two a )ertures'tl which eomnmnithe same. lirotally secured between the guide-ways or upon the tube is awire 10,-
w hieh is pivotally eonneeted' between two eorresponding sleei'esf ll,,to a wire loop 12, the eourerging ends of the loop being through the respective apertures 9 and guideways (i. or tube as the-case may be,'crossii1g each other as shown at- 13, and brought to- 14 whieh is threaded by a solid eylindrieal rodlfi. adapted to slide freely in the handle, and provided upon its free end with a ring 16, upon whieh the loop is expanded 'or eon traeted. as desired.
riin 'the wire 100) is contracted the instrw passed ends bent back in a sleere' By pulling iipoirthe ment is then held with the wire loop .down- \rm'tL-inserted in the vagina and passed gently into the uterus, and there adjusted so as to reeeive and elamp the young in or-' der to extraet or remove the same. (Should the young be lodged in the vagina and it is found impossible to expand the wire loop sufficiently to elamp the same, close the instrument and shove the young back into the uterus and there adjust the instrument with the wit-e loop turneddownward.) Upon expanding the wire loop by shoving in on the ring, the animal will be caused to strain, and. thus the young will pass into the loop which is rontraeted by pulling upon the rim. 'Af tor which the instrun'ient. is hamlled or the extraetinp is performed entirely by. pulling on the ring.
Haring tlms deseribed my inventiou.'\\'h'atl elaim as new and desire toserure by 'Let-' ters lateut. is:- In a veterinary obstetrieal' instrmnentdhe oombinatiou of a hollow shank, ashollo'n" handle carried thereby at one end, and a sieev'e detachahiy secured to tilGdillPlidWd I flattened head at the other end provided end of the rod for. detnchabiy securing the 10 with diverging eyes, a flexible gripping 100p ferminals of the loop to the rod. having its terminals guided by said eyes, CH XRLES G XBFL and entering the hollowehenk to a point approximately opposite the inner end of the Witnesses: handle, a rod slida-bly' mounted in the-han- L. A. Ruling die and having in threaded inner end, and a A; J; MqLoon.
