Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VILLIAM E. MODER- Mo'r'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in Trunks, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in trunks, and more particularly to trunks having a plurality of compartments.

The object of my invention is to provide a trunk so constructed and arranged that it may be easily reversible.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

With these objects in view, my invention consists in a central transverse partition rgidly secured in the body portion of a trunk reinforcing the same, and two covers on opposite sides of said body portion, each cover being provided with the usual clasps, lock and straps.

My invention further consists in various details of construction and arrangements of parts all as will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

Referring now to the drawings, 1 indicates the body portion of the trunk, and 2 the central transverse partition. The covers 3 are provided on opposite sides of the body portion 1 and are pivoted to the same by means of hinges 4 at diagonally opposite edges of the body portion 1, thus making the compartments on each side of the partition 2 independent of each other. Each cover 3 is provided with the usual clasps 5 and lock 6, the buckle straps 7 and 8 being arranged as shown and preferably secured in position by means of rivets 9. A centrally positioned strap handle 10 is provided at each end of the trunk in order that the same may be readily turned over in case access to the bottom compartment is desired. The usual trays may also be provided in each compartment as shown.

Vhile I have shown but one lock for each compartment, two locks may obviously be used if considered necessary in a large trunk. And while I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my trunk, I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be many changes made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention.

The trunk may be used for other purposes, but is especially convenient for theatrical people as each compartment of the trunk may contain a separate outfit each of which is readily accessible.

Having described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A trunk comprising a rectangular body portion provided with handles at the ends, and a horizontal partition dividing said body portion into two compartments, in combination with a pair of covers hingedly connected to said body portion at diagonally opposite edges of the same, and a pair of buckle straps arranged adjacent each end of said trunk, each pair being adapted to encircle the trunk and the free end of each being adapted to engage the buckle of the other, and said straps being xedly secured to the body of the trunk, so that one of each pair may be unfastened independently of the others, leaving the other straps taut, substantially as described.
