IVIAX H6LL, OF DRESDEN, GERMANY.
COFFEE-MILL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 28, 1909.
Application filed July 23, 1908. Serial no. 445,034.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX HoLL, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Dresden, N in Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Coffee-Mills, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in coffee-mills of the type in which a normally closed discharge-orifice and dischargetrough are provided for the ground coffee, so that the latter runs out of the mill, or can be caused to run out by tilting or shaking the mill, when the shutter of the said orifice is opened.
The invention consists in providing, for opening the shutter, a rod, lever, or the like, so arranged that the user of the mill can operate the said rod or lever and at the same time, with the same hand, grip the mill for the purpose of supporting, lifting, tilting, or shaking the same.
A construction embodying the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which a represents the outer box, and b the hopper. The mill-chamber 0 below the grinders has an inclined bottom cl terminating, outside the discharge orifice c, in a discharge-trough f. The discharge-orifice c is normally closed by a flap g fixed to an axle h, the latter having a radial arm which passes between two horizontal pins fixed to a vertically movable rod 2'. The rod 71 has a button 7: at its upper end, outside the box a. A spring Z tends to thrust the rod 2' upward, and thus to keep the orifice 6 closed by depressing the flap 9 whereas by depressing the rod 2' the flap 9 is lifted.
As shown in the drawing the position of the rod 2' is such that the button 70 can be depressed by the thumb of the hand which holds the mill, so that the users other hand remains free.
WVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is In a portable hand operatable coffee mill the combination of a casing having a lateral discharge orifice, a floor sloping to said orifice, a grinding device above said floor, a shutter for said orifice hinged above the same, a plunger projecting above said casing located to be operated by the thumb of the hand of the operator grasping said casing, means connecting said plunger and shutter whereby depression of said plunger opens the shutter and a spring for raising said plunger.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
