WYATT A. WILSON, OF JASPER, ALABAMA.
HAME-CLIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 28, 1909.
Application filed December 15, 1908. Serial No. 467,587.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVYATT A. WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jasper, in the county of Walker and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Hame-Clip, of which the following is a specification.
The objects of the invention are, the provision, in a merchantable form, of a device of the above mentioned class, which shall be inexpensive to manufacture, facile in operation and devoid of complicated parts.
l/Vith these and other objects in view, as will hereinafter more fully appear, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, delineated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that divers changes in form, proportions, size, and minor details of the structure may be made, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Similar nmnerals of reference are employed to denote corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawmgs.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective of a hame collar of ordinary construction equipped with hame clips of my invention; Fig. 2 is a detail perspective of my invention; Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the clip and collar.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown a hame collar of ordinary construction, comprising the usual body portion 1, and the fore-Wale 2.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a hame clip comprising a curvilinear body portion 3, preferably formed of a flat metallic strip and bent upon itself intermediate its ends, to form a radially projecting shoulder 4. The outer end of the body portion 8 is outwardly flexed to form a foot 6, provided with an aperture 8. The inner end of the body portion is provided with a tongue 5, downstruck from the said body portion. This tongue 5 may be of any form; preferably, however, as shown, it is of V-shape, the base of the l being disposed toward the inner end of the body portion 3.
In mounting my invention upon a collar, the tongue 5 is driven into the fore-Wale 2 of the collar upon the inner face thereof, the curvilinear body portion 3 embracing the fore-Wale, and the foot 6 outwardly projecting in contact with the body portion of the collar. The tongue 5 serves to hold the inner end of the body portion rigidly and firmly to the forewale, and through the aperture 8 in the foot 6 may be passed a rivet 7, piercing the fore-Wale and buttended against the outer face of the body portion 3. When thus mounted, the shoulder at stands substantially parallel to the face of the body 1 of the collar, and serves to prevent the hames from moving forward and away from the fore-Wale 2, when the draft animals are backing the vehicle.
It is to be understood that a collar may be equipped with any number of the hame clips forming the subject matter of this application.
Fig. 1 shows a convenient and practical arrangement, wherein the collar is equipped with four clips, arranged in oppositely disposed pairs, one of said pairs being located near the top of the collar and the other pair near the bottom thereof. This figure, however, is intended to illustrate one embodiment merely, and other arrangements may be advantageously and profitably made.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect, by Letters Patent, is
A hame clip formed of a single strip of metal and comprising a U-shaped body portion arranged to straddle the fore-Wale of a collar, the said body portion being bent upon itself intermediate its ends to form a hame-engaging shoulder, the outer terminal of the clip being provided with a down struck tongue, and the inner terminal being bent substantially at right angles to the body portion to form a foot to fit between the Wale and the collar proper, the said foot being terminated at its intersection with the collar proper and being apertured to receive collar-engaging means.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WYATT A. WILSON.
Witnesses HENRY P. THOMAS, J AMES B. POWELL.
