ALBERT OLAFP-AULSON, OF ANETA, NORTH DAKOTA.
BADGE OR RIBBON FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT O. PAULSON, acitizen of the United States, residing at A'neta, in the county of Nelson and State of North Dakota, have invented a new and useful Badge or Ribbon Fastener; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a badge or ribbon fastener, and has for its object to provides. simple, inexpensive and durable device of this character, which 'can be readily used for attaching a badge or ribbon to the aprmrel of either men or women.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel constructi n and arrangement of mrts hereinafter described and shown am prirticulnrly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, F igure 1 is a plfLIl view of a badge fastener constructed in acfifin'dencc with this invention. Fig. 2 is a' vertical sectional view, somewhat enlarged taken through a portion of the badge and fastener,
Re erring to the drawings, 1 designates a badge, ribbon or other similar material, the u perend 2 of which is bent downward es cfearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The bent portion 2 is firmly hold by theclamp 3 Which'is approximately U-shaped in section, the portion 4 being bent upon the 4 part 5 between which the'badge is clamped. l The other portion 6 of the device is pressed com actly against the ribbon or Dodge 1, whic thus holds all parts in a compact form. The portion 4 of the clamp is provided with an inverted V-shaped edge 4, designed, as
cause a secure fastening therefor. When the ribbon is securely fastened to the metallie clamp a wire 7 is also inserted in the clamp which is designed to engage the garment of the wearer by means of the sharp portions or points 8. The device is applied 1 Specification of Letters Patent.
Application f led April 7, 1908.
Patented May 4, 1909.
Serial No. 425,655.
as follows: The wire 7 is slightly bent into a bow shape, the'points8 are then inserted in the garment, then the wire is straightened or flattened again which securely fastens the device to the garment of the person desiring to wear the same, as will be clearly understood. i H
The features, elements and the arrcnge mc-nt thereof, which constitute the above entitled invention, may be changed and varied, that is to say, in en actual reduction to practice, with the understan' ing that the changes and variations accruing from saidreduction to practice are limited to the scope of the appended claim.
In order to guard against the wire 7 becoming accidentally.displaced an offset or bulged portion 9 is formed on each side of the some adjacent the metallic clamp.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to Slk' cure by Letters-Patent is,
A badge, a clamp therefor composed of a single piece of metal folded upon itself so as to form a U-shaped member having two outer clamping portions and an intermediate portion having an inverted V-shaped biting or engaging edge, said badge being folded upon itself at its upper portion designed to intercngage the said intermediate portion, a wire circular in cross section disposed be. tween the outer portions of the clamp and directly above the upper edge of the intermediate portion, so id wire having oll'sets S) to i engage the clamp to prevent displacement thereof, said inverted V-sheped biting edge being designed to clamp the folded portion of the badge against the lower circumference of the said wire, and for thepurpose specifically defined.
In testimony whereof 1 have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT OLAF PAULSON'. Witnesses:
