HIP-REDUCING ATTACHMENT FOR CORSETS.
Specification of Letters vPatent.
Application filed Februaryl 1, 1909. Serial No. 475,322. .l
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JENNIE M. BODENSIEK, a citizen of the Kingdom of Sweden, residing in New York, in the borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hip-Reducing Attachments for Corsets, of which the cation. l l
This invention relates to an improved hipreducing attachment for corsets which is to be worn by women, and especially stout women, so as to reduce the bulge at the hips and distribute the same uniformly around the hips and thighs.
following is a specifi- I-Iip-reducing attachments which were applied to the lower edge'of the corset and which extendedaround the hips and thighs were used heretofore. They served to press the bulge at the hips and upper parts of the thighs inwardly,'but produced an uneven distribution -at the thighs.
The object ofmy improved hip-reducing attachment is to overcome this objection and to produce a reduction in the bulge of the hips means of separate hip land thigh reducers; and for this-purpose'` the invention consists of a hip-reducing attachment which is attached to the lower end of the corset and made of Velastic webbing, which extends around the hip and the upper por-` tion of each thigh, and which is connected by lacings at the front-part 0f each thigh for independent adjustment, the separate hip and thigh reducers being provided at their\lower edges with `a plurality of hosesupporters'.
.In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front-view of my improved hipreducing attachment, Fig. 2 is a rearview ofthe same, and Fig. is a perspective view of one portion of the hip-reducer extending around the hip and thigh, drawn on a larger scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate cor- 'responding parts throughout the figures.
.Referring to the drawings, a vrepresents a hip-reducing attachment, whichxis stitched,-
or otherwise fastened, at its upper end to the lower edge of the corset c. The hip-reducing attachment consists of two separate portions or membersa1 which extend over the hips and the upper portions' of the thighs, and which are com-posed to ia great extent of suitable unstiffened and st ayless elastic "webbing 7),*01 other elastic fabric, to

abdomen in the manner of the well-known hose-supporters attached to the front-part of womeus corsets. Vhen the attachment -is properly laced, it reduces the hip and thigh portions of the body and distnibutes the bulge of the same uniformly around the upper portions of the thighs, so that a snug and round form obtained at the hips without any discomfort to the wearer of the corset. As the `webbing of the independent hip and thigh reducing portions is elastic, it yields to every motion of the body and permits' stooping without interfering with the movements of the body in sitting down or rising, imparts a good shape to the parts of the bodyY below the hips and does entirely away `with the objectionable swelling or bulging at the hips and thighs, which is so annoying to women of ood taste. The hip and limb reducing attac iment is intended to take the place of the well-known,non-elastic hip-reducing extensions of corsets, which do not give `the same comfort and snug fit as the separate elastic hipv and thigh reducers.
Having thus described my invention. I claim as new and desire Yto secure by Letters Patent: f
l. -In combination with a corset., a hipredmringI attachment consisting of a pair of separate members, each member comprising a web of elastic fabric forming the intramarginal and lower edge-portions of the member, a piece of inelastic fabric forming the upper edge-portion, and end-extensions Teo of the member, the upper free corner of eaclVA end-portions adapted to passfbetween the thighs, means for connecting the free ends' of the tapering portions,4 and means ,for attaching the upper edge lportion to the corset. 2.'In combination, a corset, and a pair of separatehip-reducing members, each member comprising a web of elastic fabric forni- 'extension beingcut away to form tapering ing the intramarginal portion and' thc lower edge of the member,a piece of non-elastic pliable material forming the upper edge of said me1nber,'stitches across said upper edge,
of separate hip -reducing members, each.-
member lcomprising a web of`elastic fabric forming the intramarginal portion and the lower edge of the member, a piece of nonelastic fabric stitched to said elastic fabric vandpforming the upper edge of said member and end-extensions therefor, stitches extend.
i'ng the, length of said upper edge by which it is attached to theA corset, the free ends of said end extensions being cutv away at their upper corners toform tapering lower portions adaptcd to pass between -the thighs,
and lacings for, connecting the free ends of said tapering portions.
4. In combination, a corset, and a pair of separate hipweducingA members, each member comprising a web of elastic fabric forming the intramarginal, and lower edge poreager-a free ends of said end-portions, said rearportion being longer thanthe front-portion,
whereby the lacings are located near the frontvof the thighs. A
5. A hip and limb reducing attachment for corsets consisting of a web of elastic fabric forming the intramarginal and lower edge portion, a piece of non-elastic fabric forming the upper edge ofthe attachment and end-extensions therefor, the upper free corners of said extensions being cut away to form' front and rear tapering portions, the rear portion being longer than the front portion, and lacings connecting the free ends of said front and rear-portions.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my namein presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JENNIE M. BODENSIEK.
