Description

J. D. BLAKER.
B reech-Loading Fire-Arm.
Patented Aug. 10, 1869.
'Witnesses r JOHN D. BLAKER, or NnW'ToWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
Leners Patent No. 93,403, dma August 1o, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN BREECI-I-LOADING- FIRE-ARMS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and. making part of the same.
To all 'whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, JoHN- D.BLAKER, of New-v town, in the county of Bucks, and State of Pennsyl- Vania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Breech-Loading Fire-Arms ,and I do hereby declare l that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification. v
This invent-ion relates to improvements in breechloading fire-arms, having for its object to provide an improved arrangement ot' catch-spring and detachinglever, for holding and disconnecting the barrel, which is hinge-jointed, and swings downward for inserting the charge;A also, a'n improved arrangement of dis- `charger, for throwing out the shell by the turning down ofthe barrel for reloading; and also an arrangement for cooking the hammer by the same movement of the barrel for reloading; all as hereinafter more fully specified.
Figure l represents a sectional elevation of my improved breech'loading gun, with red lines representing the barrel as turned down for loading.
Figure 2 represents a plan View of the same.
Similar letters ofreference indicate corresponding parts;
-Th'ebarrel is made in two parts, a b also the stock, which is hinged together'at c'.
d represents a catch, placed on. the top of the part b, of thebarrel, for catching under a spring-catch, e, fixed tothe branch u.
f represents a disconneating-lever pivoted to the pait b of the barrel, and having a curved end, g, which takes under the curved end of the spring-catch, when thetwo parts of the barrel are connected together. The other end of this lever projects suicieutly toward the muzzlev beyond the point, to be grasped by the hand when the barrel is grasped Ifor turning down,
and pressed down to throw the other end up, raising the spring-catch to allow the escape of the catch c.
When the part a of the barrel is returned again, the catch c is forced under the catch e, which springs up and allows the catch c to slide under far enough to be locked.
h represents a retracting, hooked spring, connected to the part b of the barrel, so as to project into, the
base of the part a, far enough vto catch behind the riln of the exploded cartridge, and discharge it when the barrel is turned down.
The hammer t' is connected by a cord, k, passing' through a guide-eye, l, to the stock, or it may be to the barrel beyond the joint of' the two parts thereof, so as to be drawn forward when the part b is turned down, thereby cooking the hammer also, by the turning down of the barrel.
Having thus described my invention,
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is-e 1. The combination, with the parts a b of the barrel hinged as described, ofthe catch c, spring-catch e, and disconnecting-lever f, when arranged substantially as specified. l
2. The combination, with the parts a b of the barrel, hinged together as described, of the discharging spring hook h, substantially as specified.
3. The combination, with the hammer and parts of the barrel, when hinged as described, of the cord 76, ar ranged as specified.
4. The arrangement, with' the part b of the barrel, when hinged to the part a, as described, of device for simultaneously disconnecting 4the catches e c,- discharging the shell and cooking the hammer, substantially as specified.
