IMPROVEMENT IN CORSET-STEELS.
To all whom fit may conce/rn:
'Be it known that I, FRANCES LEE BARNES, of New York city, in the county and State of 'New York, and S. H. BARNES, ,now deceased, late of the same place, have invented anew and useful Improvement inGorset-Springs; and I, the 'said FRANCES LEE BARNES, for myself, and as executrix in the will of the said S. H. BARNES, deceased, do hereby declare that the following -is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being. had to the accompanying drawing, ibrming part of `this specification, in which- Figure l represents a face View of the improved corset-spring.`

This invention relates to a certain improvement in corset-Springs, wherebythe same are made Stronger and more durable in places where they vnow most Ythebody or main portion of each spring, during the 'manufacture of the same.
By this arrangement the elasticity of the Springs at the ends, where it is most required, is retained, and additional strength in the middle produced. The breaking ofthe spring in the middle is thus most effectualiy prevented.
The thick portionis, by preierence, gradually and not suddenly reduced toward the ends, as in fig. 2.
Instead of being made` thicker at the middle, thespiing may be made wider, in order to obtain the desired additional strength. v
Having thus described this improvement,
I claim, as the joint invention of myself and S. H. BARNES deceased, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Witnesses FRANK BLooKLEY, ALEX. F; ROBERTS.
