GQNCRETE POST.
' p To all-'whomit 'may concern:
Be it known that we, WIILIAM A. NELSON, f
Jr., and, ROBERT L. ArrLING, citizens of the United States, residing aty Memphis, in the county of Shelby, State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete Posts; and we do hereby declare the following to be 'a full, clear, vand exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to fence posts and its principal object is to provide an improved form of fence post.
Wit the above and other objects in view, as wil be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of a cementitious fence post provided with novel reinforcing` 4means andimproved wire attaching and supporting devices.
The invention further consists'in certain novel details of construction'and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indlcate like parts in the' several views, and :-'Figure 1 is a side elevation of a fence post constructed'in accordance with this invention, a portion being in section to show the attaching wires. Fig. 2 is a front face view ofa portion of the post showing the wires in position for attachment. Fi 3 is a horizontal section through the post s owing the construction thereof and the manner of attaching the wires.
The numeral 10 indicates the body of a post and this4 post body is formed of some cementitious material such as concrete. Extending longitudinally of the body and arranged in laterally spaced relation are a pair of reinforcingv rods 11. Formed in the rear face of the post are a seriesf'of recesses 12 'and extending from the inner end of each of these recesses through the front portion of the post are openings 13. Cross bars 14 provided with hooked ends 15 and having the center portion bowed toward the' face of the post are engaged over the reinforcing rods 11 and the plane of the center line of the cross bar is in a horizontal'plane passing through the axis of the respective recess 12. The cross bar is furthermore made of less diameter than the recess so that it does not prevent access to the openings 13. Spaced on either side of the openings '13 are bearer Specification of Letters Patent.

lates 16 of substantially triangular form nd these bearer plates have their apices embedded in the material lof the post and .are .provided with a, fence wire receiving notch 17 extending-.across the base thereof. At 18 is indicated a fence wire and the manner of attaching this wire consists in inserting in the recess a U-shaped attaching wire 19 and pulling the ends of this wire through the openings 13 until they extend over the wire 18 when they are twisted together as at 20 to form an attaching loop. It is to be noted that this' twisting has the effect of drawing the portion of fence wire lying between the plates 16 against the face of the post so that longitudinal displacement of the wire is prevented.
There has 4thus been provided a simple of, a fence wire attaching loop extending around each of the cross bars and projecting from the face of the post.
2. In a cementitious fence post, a body provided with vertically spaced openings,-
spaced reinforcing rods laterally disposed on each side of the openings and extending longitudinally of the post, cross bars spanning the space between the rods and bearing against the rear thereof, and a fence wire attaching loop extending around each of the cross bars and held in the openings'to project from the face of the post. Y
In a ceinentitious fence post, a body provided -with spaced recesses in the rear thereof and having a pair of openings running from the inner end of each recess to the front of the body, spaced reinforcing rods extending longitudinally of the post, one of said rods lying on one side and the other on the other side of the openings, cross bars spanning the space between the rods and bearing against the'rear thereof, and a fence wire attaching loop extending around each of the cross'bars and projecting through the openings from the face of the post.
4. In a cementitious fence post, a body provided with verticallyspaced recesses in` the rear thereof each havlng a pair of openings in vertically spaced relation running from the inner end of each recess to the` the base thereofyand a fence wire receiving loop-having its middle portion engaged over the cross bar and its ends projecting be- 15 tween the bearers through the openings in front of the. body, s aced' reinforcing rods lying on each side o the series' of openings and extending longitudinally of the post, cross bars spanning the space between the the face of the post.
