Patentiiiel isnpjn'isul ,jixpmmmmdfina December 4,1aoa. Serial No. ies'nat.
To all vhom 'it may concern.
Be it known that I, CASEY MALLERY, a citizen of the United States, residin at "Natchez, in the county of Adams and tate of Mississippi, have invented new and useful Improvements in Razors, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to razors of that ty e known as the safety razor, and the the guard .through the medium of a resilientclamping element, and the shank being provided with a projecting finger portion whereby the blade may, be swung upon the handle andretained in proper position for use by With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description no grasses, the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
'which is positioned In the accompanyi 'drawing there has been illustrated a sinip bodiment of theinvention, and'in which: Figure 1 is'a perspective view of the improved razor. Fig. 2 is a sectional view upon the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the end of the shank upon the clamping member of the bladef Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the blade. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the 6 is a detail perof the outer end of the shank spective view formed the razor upon which is integrally guard.
In the drawin a razor handle of this handle comprising a members between which is a sitioned the blade of the razor when the latter is in closed position. Pivotally connected, as at 2, between the spaced members the numeral 1 designates the ordinary, construction, air of spaced 7 of the handle 1 is a shank 3, also of the ordinary construction and having, what may be termed a finger hold extending rearwardly beyond its pivot, and throu h the e shank Zinay e addesired angle in relation to the he shank 3, in the present instance", is provided with a cut away portion or pocket 5, and has its outer surface formed medium of which just/ed at an e and preferred em" when positioned upon the bla apted to be powith a right angular flattened guard (3. This guar 6 has one of its longitudinal edges provided with spaced upwardl inclined teeth -or guard members 7 an the outer transverse edge of the guard is bent downwardly at a substantially ri ht an le to provide a wall 6. The longitufinalec? e of the guard opposite that provided with t e teeth 7 has its outer corner cut away as designed by the numeral 6 so as to position the vertical edge of the offset 6 directly in a line with the inner face of the pocket 5.
The numeral 8 designates the razor blade employed with the present. device. This blade 8 is preferably V-shaped in cross section, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing, and has its side, opposite thatof its cuttln edge provided with outwardly extending ugs or projections '9, which are adapted to engage with the pocket 5 and the wall 6 of the offset side 6 of the uard 6, thus providing a means whereby t e blade may be positioned upon the guard 6.
The numeral 10 designates the resilient clamping member of thedevice. This member 10 comprises an upper longitudinally extending lip or face 11 and a lower longitudinally extending face 12. The said faces being divided from each other through the medium of 'the integrally formed wall 13. The faces '11 and 12 are arranged at an angle with each otherto' correspond to the cross sectional V-shaped blade 8 and are adapted do and guard to effectively secure the said blade rigidly upon the guard' From the above description, taken .lll connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be noted that I have provided an extremely simple and comparatively chea article for the purpose set forth, one whic incorporates all the advantages of the old style razor whereby the shank and handle may be adjusted in relation to each other so as to accommodate the blade to the use of the operator and which provides detachable blades which may be easily and quickly positioned upon the guard or removed theredescribed the invention v the guard member, the guard having its outer end provided with an ofi'set wall, a blade provided with ofl'sets adapted to be positioned uponthe nerd and to have its ofiset portions engaging the pocket of the shank and the edge of the offset portion of the guard, and a resilient clamping member comprising a single element having upper In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CASEY MALLERY.
