Description

W. J MUGARRY.
METAL LATHING. -APPLIMTION FILED DEU. 27, 1901.
Patented Aug. 24, 1909.
falli!!! (w1/l 7'NESSE S WILLIAM JOHN MCGARRY, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
METAL LATHING.
Ton/ZZ whom 'it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, yViLLiAM JOHN Mo-v GAnni, citizen of the Umted States, and resi' dent of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey,'have invented certain new and usetul Improvements in Metal Lathing, of which the ollowingis a specitication.
This invention relates to metal lathing and lts object is to provide strengtl-ienin'g and.
claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, where:
"lVignre l representsa horizontal sectional View ofthe improved lathing. Fig. 2 isa similar' View of a' modiied form. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the lathing shown in Fig. l. v
Fig. ll is an elevation of the lathing shown in Fig.v 2.
On account of the great Weight of the plaster put upon ordinary metal lathing it is apt to bulge same or cause it to sag, 'and to overcome this objectionable feature it is `nrecess-ary to brace and strengthenthe lathing with rods and angle irons.'l rlhis invention provides a series of loops ribs or tianges iformed pei-pendicnlarly in the sheet metal preferably along lines which do not interfere with the pert'orations which hold the plaster. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the alternate ribs are formed on opposite sides of the metal Iand of such a height that is equivalent to the thickness ot' the plaster or less and the intermediate perforate metal stri'kesa diagonal line from the bass of one' rib to the other. This formation aliords additional v'speeifaaaen of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 24, Application filed December 27, 1907.'v Serial No. 408,271.
strength as the diagonal formation of the metal atlords a bracing effect.
In the form shown in Fig. 2 yit will be seen that the ribs are on the same side of the metal so that the outer surface of the plaster may be reduced to. a minimum thickness. This' form7 however,l has not the strength possessed by that'above described and it is obvious that the arrangementof these ribs in similar methods or any desirable manner may be resorted to tol strengthen the sheet metal so that it possess more stability.
lVhat l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In metal lathing, the combination with lribs or oHsets composed of a double thickness of the metal pressed together vat each side of the pane-ls'on one', side of the metal and then on the other alternately and Within parallel lines, of intermediate perforated sections ru-nning diagonally from the base of` one rib t'o the base of the other.
Q. In metal lathing, the combination with alined ribs or offsets Composed of a' double thickness of the metal pressed other first on one side of the lathing and then on the other, of intermediate perforatedsections formed at angles to the ribs.
v 3. n metal lathing', the combination with substantially solid ribs projecting alternately from opposite sides of themetal to strengthen the same, and arranged within parallel lines, of intermediate lperforated panels diag- -onalv tothe parallel lines and connecting the bases of the ribs.
Signed at New York in the county of New York and State of N ew York.
