To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EZRA B.'ZooK,a citizen of the United States, residingat Leola, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump-Jacks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to punip-jacks and more particularly to that class of pumps designed for use both as a hand pump or which by a slight change may be converted into a wind-mill actuated pump.
The objects of my invention are to produce a simple, durable and efiicient pump-jack of this class and one that will have great ease of motion, and also by my novel design the stroke or lift is started slowly and increases in speed until the center of the stroke is reached and then diminishes toward the end, which is a very important feature in a pump-jack and one that forms an easy working pump.
With these and other objects in view my invention will be fully described and claimed in the annexed specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but it is fully understood that I do not confine myself to the exact construction as shown, as slight changes may be made without in any way departing from the spirit ofthe invention.
In the drawing like reference figures inclicate corresponding parts in all the figures, and :Figure 1, is a side elevation of my pump-jack, showing the parts in the position of the extreme upward stroke. Fig. 2, is a vertical sectional view showing the position of the parts in the extreme downward stroke Fig. 3, is a horizontal partial sectional view on the line B-B of Fig. t. 'Fig. 4, is a front elevation of my pump-jack, further illustrating the construction and arrangement of the parts. Fig. 5, is a vertical horizontal sectional view, with the frame removed, taken on the line AA of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 1, indicates a circular band for securing the pump-jack to the suction pipe 2, while extending upward from said band 1, and integral therewith are the frame sides 3, which are joined together at their upper ends and integral with the head 4, which is formed with the flaring sides and the circular back 5, to the inner surface of which is secured the internal gear segment 6. WVhile the flaring sides of said headA are provided with the bearings 7, to which'are pivoted'the arms 17, of the divided hand lever 8, which is formed with the handle securing socket 9, and the forward projecting ends 10, which are provided with bearings '11, and between which is rotatably secured upon the shaft 12, (which is rigidly secured in said bearings 11,) the spur gear 13, which meshes with and rolls upon the internal gear segment 6, and which is further provided with the enlarged tooth let, within which is formed a bearing 15, and to which is pivoted the upper end of the suction-rod head 16, which is made in the form of a semi-circular case, U-shaped in cross section, for the purpose of acting as a guard or cover for the gear 13, when same is in a raised position. It will thus be seen that the spread of the hand lever arms 17, permits the suction-rod head 16, to freely pass between on the upward stroke, and as the spur gear is rolled upward upon the internal gear segment 6, by the action of the hand-lever head 8, as the hand-lever 19, is depressed the bearing or pivot tooth 14, will carry the suctionrod head 16, upward in astraight line, with an increasing speed until the center of the stroke, then with a decreasing speed until the upward limit of the stroke is reached. The leverage at all times securing a great lifting power without the application of great labor on the part of the operator.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a pump-jack of the class described, comprising a supporting frame, an internal gear segment secured to the upper end of said frame between the sides thereof, a
hand-lever head formed with curved arms,
said arms pivoted to and between the sides of said frame at the central point of said internal gear segment, a spur-gear rotatably mounted between the ends of said arms and with its teeth in mesh with said internal gear segment, said spur-gear provided with an enlarged tooth having a transverse bearing therein, a semi-circular reciprocatingrod head U-shaped in cross section and having its upper end pivoted to the enlarged tooth of said spur-gear and a reciprocatingrod secured to the lower end of said head.
2.. In a pump-jack of the class described, comprising a supporting frame, an internal gear segment integral with the upper part of said frame, a hand-lever head pivoted within said frame and formed with arm extensions beyond its pivot points, a gear r0- tatably mounted between the ends of said arm extensions and adapted to mesh with said internal gear segment, and a reciprocating-rod head in the form of a semi-circular gear case, pivoted at its upper end to said gear near the periphery thereof.
3. In a pump-jack of the class described, comprising a gear supporting frame adapted to be secured upon the suction pipe of the pump, a main gear case formed with flaring sides and integral with said supporting frame, main bearings formed in the sides of said gear case, an integral gear segment secured within said case concentric with said main bearings, a forked hand-lever head pivoted within said bearings and provided with extending arms, a spur-gear rotatably mounted between the ends of said arms and in mesh with said internal gear segment, said spurear formed with a bearing near the periphery thereof, and a reciprocatingrod head having its lower end secured to the reciprocating-rod and its upper end pivoted to the bearing in the periphery of said spurgear and adapted to form a guard for the teeth of said spur-gear when the same is in its "raised position.
